I've been working on this one for almost a month. The Databus is the largest pcb I've ever worked on and the "enclosure" has the most hours I've put into a pedal build yet. Lots of Sketchup work before hitting the shop.

November 17 marks the 7-year anniversary of my joining this forum, so I thought it would be fun to share the most recent project that I'm really proud of. Particle Accelerator X, it's an Alembic F-2B preamp running 220V with a 12AX7 and all packed into a 125B enclosure. Box is powdercoated and UV printed

I've not posted for quite a long time (only 10 years or so) but I recently got back into making pedals. Here's one I finished last week (apart from the graphics), it's a vintage echoflanger/polychorus with an added envelope follower and expression input for the tune/manual control. The envelope detector can do really slow sweeps, and can make some pretty weird noises. It's not the prettiest of pedals, and I always seem to make the LEDs brighter than the sun...

I've been tinkering with more wooden enclosures and also started making wooden knobs. The knobs are still a WIP but I'm getting there.

This is an EQD Dirt Tranmitter clone in a walnut enclosure. I just went at this one willy nilly and it too waaaay longer than it should have.












I decided to take a different approach for this next one and build a router template. It went much better and a ton faster. I made the template from 1/2" mdf and soaked it with thinned CA glue to reinforce it, it's super sturdy now. I used double sided tape to hold it to the walnut blank and routed it out. Next time I'll use the drill press to hog out the bulk of the material then just clean it up with the router, that'll speed up the process even more.

This one is a Rat with switchable clipping diodes, silicon and red LEDs. It's also made from walnut.









This thing is jam packed. It's about an inch longer than a 1590A but the internal width and height is about the same.






And here's a canary wood and walnut knob.

I started by throwing a canary wood dowel into the lathe and drilling out the center. Then cut them into slices.



Then drilled the set screw hole.



Glued them in place. (I unknowingly ruined 3 of them by getting glue on the set screw threads )



Added the walnut top.

Walnut's really common around here at "wood" stores, never seen at lumber stores, big box type stores. 

Couple locals, they also cater to luthiers so sell guitar parts and hardware.

I know, knurled would make it a lot easier too but I don't have any knurled pots. Now's a good a time as ever to buy some.

Walnut is a common hardwood here in the US but all the really good stuff gets shipped overseas so it's actually a bit more expensive than it should be. I got a good bit of it from a coworker that retired last year. I've been reluctant to dip into it because I want to save it for just the right project but who knows when that'll be.

Wood can be the most gorgeous material.  I wish I had the skills (and the space) to work with it.  The process of choosing the various woods for my birthday bass a few years ago rates only slightly lower than having kids.

That giant orange LED looks quite nice against that dark blue (I've mentioned elsewhere that orange is now my favorite LED color).  I like the gridded window too.  Actually, I like several more things in that build, but I'm going to stop listing them all.  Nice work!
