Rats aren't my favorite distortion pedals, but all of my friends seem to have one - what the heck.

This was a chance to try laser engraved aluminum for the labelling. The black anodized plate is the
same size as the top of the 1590BB. I was surprised at how much detail the engraving was able to
produce - the rodent started as a pen and ink drawing. The picture doesn't show it well, but the
individual hair lines are visible up close.

looks like there is a lot of detail there! very nice. which system did you use? i just ordered in a epilog 18 with 25watt co2 tube. i'm waiting 3 weeks or it to come in from the states and i'll be using it for my own diy purposes for sure! i've already demo'd one and it perfectly makes masks like that for acid etching too, which means no more stuffing around with bloody PnP to make circuit boards or acid etch enclosures. i took down some of my images and it chopped me up a perfect strat scratchplate (perfect!) out of thin wood (1/8" inch? i'm not imperial) in  about 20 secs.

you could also look into using cermark. it permanently marks metals like aluminium as though they have been screen printed. i did this on a mirror finished box and it looked good.

fyi, a lot of good lasers are capable of making fantastic images at 1200 dpi, which is twice what pnp will often do.

not to derail the thread too uch. three week or so wait, but i'd love to help you out! we'll get in touch. vectors in illustrator, corel, photoshop, flash etc. are good, but even if you hand draw it large and in clear black/blue and and white then i can do it raster. if you are working on the computer work at 600 dpi or greater.

My first DIY pedals, finally painted them up the other day.


ROG Big Daddy LM386 distortion.


FS-2 footswitch for my old '89 100w Laney Linebacker.

The Big Daddy turned out exactly like I pictured it in my head, so I'm really pleased with it. I like to keep things clean and simple
My first attempt at building and soldering anything. First try was on perfboard and didn't make a sound, I thought the soldering was lowsy so I redid it on vero and ended up soldering a couple parts in the wrong spot plus my soldering was horrible again. So it was third time lucky, taking extra care with my soldering, and finally it worked wonders.

The FS-2 was a simple wire job, connecting tip/ring to ground to enable the Laney's reverb and switch between channels.

My only complaints about my painting was that I should have put a few more coats of clearcoat on them, but they still look fine and should do for my first try.

Next up; Aron's Smash Drive. Already have the vero soldered up, just need to drill the enclosure then paint it up similar to the Big Daddy. Will post pics when done!
After that I have a few PCBs I had made up for me to throw together a bunch of pedals. Pedalboard here I come!

Bonjour from Quebec! My first post and my first build. It's a MXR phaser 45 from GGG (awesome kit btw!) and sound just like Gilmour in ''shine on you...'' almost univibing...but i think i'm going to mods it with the unvibe mod i've seen somewhere else. Got to be patient before labelling...the paint must dryed totaly! Anyway, it's a decepticon !

Thanks. Yes the labels are drawn with paint marker, but I haven't clear coated them so they wear out quite fast

There are gut shots and close up before I draw that vibe text to it. The speed and depth and cho/vib markings on that pedal are made with letter punch and then coloured with blue marker.

Here's a broken heart for Valentine's day.  It's a true bypass/feedback loop with foot switches to turn the feedback on or off.  I believe it once held chocolates.  I'm still getting my chops for working with metal, this stuff was real thin and I accidentally bent it a little as you can see in the photo.  Today I'm putting in a couple of layers of cardboard on the lid to reinforce the area under the switches.
