I don't think I would be happy with etched plaques on my wood boxes.
I like the clean smooth look.

How about using letter punches before finishing, like how Gibson does their serial numbers? I imagine it wouldn't disrupt the clean look too much.

I've been lurking for quite awhile and have made a pile of pedals for myself.  I love wood working and have always wanted to make wood boxes like yours.

Can I ask how you make the wood thin enough for the parts to fit through but still be strong enough that you don't stomp the switch through when you step on it?

It's a bit of a proces but hopefully this is worth a thousand words.


The box is 5 pieces. Top and 4 sides.

Metal stamps, branding and laser etching would be my choices
for lettering on the boxs. Just a matter of planing I guess.
It would all need to be done pre finishing process so I could not
finish the boxes until I know what will go in them.

What kind of paint is that? I like it...

There aren't any secrets. Just many many hours making mistakes and
learning a method. Planing and hands on experience will work for
any hobby. If you run into a problem then figure it out somehow.
If you want a specific detail just ask...

  I like to secure where the grain exits, glue soaked in the pothole endgrains, around the pothole where the washers press, theoretically stiffening those areas.
  One box split down the grain-line...all the pots in a row tends to test the crossgrain strength. Plywood would resist that.

Do you use CA glue or just standard yellow wood glue?

Gold one is a Sparkle drive into a Trotsky drive, but I'll still have to try putting the Trotsky first.
