Ok, so it's not really a pedal. :)

My completed Arduino prototyping board. Woot!

I want one
Completed builds: BSIAB2
Pedals to build: Dr.Boogey, TS-808

trad3mark

Nearly done with my germanium muff thing. MUCH neater build than previous efforts that some may be familiar with. not 100% sure on which knobs to use, probably the black ones closest to the camera:

OBLIGATORY GUT SHOT (With about 10 components not in it) but you can see how neat things are when you mount the board to the pots! :P

Thinking, for the laugh, to do all the text in Irish? Im not 100% on the name for it at the moment. At present, it's just called "Beta Hybrid", but.... what about some cool irish name from Irish Mythology, like Cú Chulainn, or Aodh (one of the Children of Lír), and i could also, for the laugh, do the controls in irish:
Volume: Toirt
Tone: Tuin
Sustain: Cothaigh

lol!

Cheers to those who helped with this along the way. I had a thread called More Muff Experimenting, but also to those who gave advice on tidying up and improving my build quality. I'm sure you'll be glad to see my progress! ;)

What are the gains on the germaniums you're using?

trad3mark

hfe's are coming in at between 260 and 275. I made some changes to some resistor values to dirty it up a bit, but the clipping is very smooth. I used two 1M pots for volume and sustain, but used other resistors to change the taper/value for them. should have finished pics of the board tomorrow afternoon.

Slightly modded Big Daddy overdrive. Englishmen of a certain age may get the 'Easy' reference.

This was my first self-made PCB and I've learned a lot in the process. Unfortunately, renovating an old house top to bottom is severely eating in to my pedal building time.

John that is beautiful!  How did you do it, I love natural wood grain and would (NPI) love to do something like that one day...?

Gorgeous, John.  Missed this one.  Do you make furniture, too?  If not, you should!

I've made tables, stools and many picture frames. Takes forever but I like the end result.
It's made from a solid piece of wood that I cut into 3 pieces and then hollowed out and glued together.

finish on those is nice and even as well, it can be tough to keep the endgrain from sucking up too much stain, actually i shouldn't assume anything about staining, but i like how its not  thick and covering the grain. hand rubbed oil finish? linseed oil? french polish  ;D ok i'll stop guessing, but they look great!
nothing says forever like a solid block of liquid nails!!!

No stain here. That piece of wood is 150 + years old.
I really don't like anything other than clear or amber
wood finishes. That pedal has 15 coats of a linseed
and polyurethane finish aplied by hand. I wet sand each coat and then
buff out with paste wax and steel wool. Then a few coats of just wax
and lots of elbow grease.

How do you bring yourself to step on it?  I would have it on its own table, and a specially designated roadie with white cloth gloves would press the button.

Bahaha!  I visualized it straight away..."Jeeves!  The Pedal.  NOW!" ... "Yes, m'Lord...<click>".    :icon_lol:

If you guys don't mind me asking, why do you put battery jacks in your pedals? Does anybody NOT use a DC adapter?

I hope you recycle them  ???

i never put a battery snap in. i cant afford £5 a time for a 9v bat. If its good enough to be used it gets powered by my pedal power 2 on my board. i suppose most other builders use snaps as they are about ten times cheaper than a 2.1mm dc socket.

It´s good to have the option to use a battery, for example in a recording situation.

9v battery -> 2.1 to battery converter -> 2.1 reverse polarity converter -> one leg of your daisy chain

Genius, innit ;) (you get both of those adapters with a Godlyke Powerall)

Loving the 'rugged' etched look. Really cool :)
