Hello together, great stuff again  8)

So here's a little quiz for you, I have built a "thing" and you have to advise what it is...

Good luck  :icon_lol:

This is a picture where it is half-finished:

And here it's finished:

Phwoar!!
Don't know what it is but I love it.
I've got a picture in my head of it inside an empty valve tube. I wouldn't mind seeing that.

Hello,

Thank you  :icon_redface:

Yes, I am going to do exactly this, it will be mounted in an old tube
and the wires will be soldered to the metal pins of the tube
so I have a Fuzz/Overdrive in a valve and can take it with me
if somebody ask's what interests/hobbies I have :)

The pedal gets a valve-socket and everything inside the pedal is wired directly to this socket...

QuoteWay Huge Red Llama in a Tube Case?
You guessed it - almost - its a Craig Anderton Tube Sound Fuzz...
...and the sound will come directly out of the tube  ;D

QuoteWhat it is, is Really Neat!
Thank you, John  :)

I still have to look for an old tube I can use,
I will look at a local guitar-shop to get some small tubes
before they're going to waste - a good recycling  :icon_biggrin:

Dang. I was gonna guess Rocketship, but the Tube Sound Fuzz is probably more apropo.

Can't wait to see it finished. I hope you're able to get some really high quality pics - I'd be tempted to make it my Desktop image.

How would you open the glass up to enable soldering to the original pins?
...and then put it back together.

I'm looking at an old tube and scratching my head. Thinking of having a go myself now, though, not sure my p2p skills are up to it.

Maybe drill a hole in the bottom, between the pins and build it 'ship in a bottle' style.  :D

That had me wondering too. You can buy octal tube bases and that would do half the job but as for the glass, maybe find something in acrylic to join to the base.  See tube bases near the bottom of this page. http://www.hoffmanamps.com/MyStore/perlshop.cgi?action=template&thispage=TubeSockets&ORDER_ID=310727690

I have seen 7-pin miniature plugs that are solderable (the nickle wires and tube pins are not unless you have solder for stainless steel or something like that).  Otherwise, you may have to build your own 7-pin adaptor from solderable pins mounted in a circular body.  I also have a shortwave receiver adaptor for a radio that uses a 7-pin audio (12AV6/6AV6, 12AT6/6AT6) tube.  You remove the tube and plug in the adaptor and plug the tube into the tube socket in the adaptor and you have a regenerative adaptor.  Mine was $5 at a garage sale and it came with a coil wound for 6 MHz to 12 MHz.

Yes, i made some real good pictures, a little step-by-step photo-collection  ;)

I am definitive going to build this and I have to find a solution,
but I got all my projects finished to my satisfying and I will make this too - I don't have any doubt!

Nice idea, I thought to get this kind of tube-bias-adapter too, but first I will try my luck at some old tubes - I will make 'em  8)

try old octal preamp tubes. try to get the base off without breaking the glass. then open the glass at the bottom, insert your circuit and glue it to the base. you can't see the glass is broken then. octal bases are also easier to solder something to the pins because they are hollow. if you use an all glass tube the pins are just the wires of the internal parts coming out.

Yes, I prefer this method too - hope to get some of them  ;)

Thank you!
