Sorry for asking this stupid question: what's the work board for?

It lets you wire up your harness outside of the pedal, so you get just the right wire lengths and everything is held in place to make for easy wiring, but since it's not built in the pedal it's easier to debug (I always build right into the enclosure, but when I have to debug it's a huge pain).

Yes, pre assembly and debug/testing.
Here are some pics to illustrate.
I made the bypass box at the bottom to clip
onto the leads to test through an amp and to
compare to bypass etc.

Yeah the workboards/jigs are a great idea John, makes doing the wiring so much easier. I have yet to take the next step and actually test the circuit out of the box and on the board but i may get there, i'm veeery slooow.

where do you get those awesome tiny pots? I bet you could pack a 1590B with those...

You can do it! I made my first circuit on june 20th. I have only been drilling my own enclosures and painting them for a month. I would call myself a beginner.

I'm a beginner with only one recent pedal project under my belt and I think it turned out well in an artsy way. Always aim high dude to impress yourself as well as others and you will do well. You might surprise yourself. It's not as hard as it looks!

This is so true! Just don't be too focused on creating something...
My ideas for enclosure finish usualy pop up in my head when I do some running or while driving but almost never when I think: " how shall I finish this one??"
