I have a little question: How long does it take to etch such a reverse etch like to one pictured? -> About 10 minutes at the etchant.
You use ferric chloride, right? -> Yes!

Only 10 minutes???
You have a pretty strong solution then or is a reverse etch quicker than a normal etch?
My 'barcode-fuzzfactory' took nearly an hour to etch :icon_sad:

regards,
Jim

Yeah, maybe that's the reason. You have to keep moving the enclosure at the etchant all the time (use gloves), using a toothbrush to remove the metal rests each 3 or 5 minutes.
Cheers ;)

Slade, after you paint it how do you remove the paint from the lettering without spoiling the paint on the backgroud?

Those look like they were taken from an old oven. Very cool.

They came off some old military equipment. I ended up with 7 sets.

Do a search on eBay for "clear chickenhead knobs". They are reasonably priced :)

I assume that's what he used. I have some neat knobs that are transparent with paint over them so that only certain parts (like pointer lines) let the light through (actually from an airplane %^&*pit control panel)... Was looking at options to use em with...

Bean, they look great, I was wondering if anyone had tried transparent knobs before! But seriously, transparent glowing knobs and no lights-out pics??? For shame!  :icon_confused:

I love this.

What kind of finish is it? Is it really just waterslide on black?

use a sanding block to sand the top. Only the raised areas will have paint removed.
