And the guts...

i always wondered how these pro pcb's are made!is there a machine or something?
Our friend Taylor had these professionally fabricated and they can be purchased from him here: www.musicpcb.com

I forgot to take an outside pic before I put it on my board, so the gutshot below belongs to the "Squash Comp" on my board here (looks white, but it actually is black with a plain silver top that looks white with the flash):

Several machines, in fact.  All the machines are CNC controlled, and the basic process, as I understand it, is first to drill the holes, and then do the through hole plating.  (This has to be done before etching, because it involves and electroplating process, so the two sides need to have electrical continuity).  Then, the boards are coated with a UV sensitive resist very similar to what some of us use for making our own PCB's, and the traces are transferred to the board.  I've never been clear on exactly how they do this, but I assume it is more sophisticated than my transparency and UV light box.  Then it is chemically etched (again, similar to what we do at home, but on a larger scale), and the solder mask (the green stuff) is cut and applied - again, I believe, with a CNC machine that punches out the holes for the pads.  The board labels are all applied with a silkscreen, and finally the board is cut to size.  One assumes they stuff as many boards as possible onto a large blank board to minimize their scrap.

I'm sure you could find videos on youtube, if you really wanted to bother.

I like what you did there with the lettering, very stylish!

@~arph thanks alot, it's become quite a theme of mine, question is what to do when I build a delay???

I've been painting and stripping this delay for a couple years now and wondering if i'll ever finish.

A couple that I've worked on with the rotary tool recently.  Wah's (obviously) not done, and the other is round two on the "sonic tonic" which still needs some tweaking.  Trying different burs for the engraving, so its getting better, but still a bit sloppy not having settled on a favorite.

@ Davent

That's a very clever way of doing the lettering, and I like how it looks.

Just put this together yesterday.
Its a WH Red Llama and Dan Armstrong Green Ringer in series (independantly switchable).

Not finished the outside yet, gonna decide on a name and some graphics of my own this time.

someone was a messy boy! ;D

It was his first build. My first build was just as messy. I suppose yours was perfect? Please show the gut shots from your first build, so I can tell you how terrible it looks.

Seriously, why do ask to see people's gut shots? Just so you can criticize them?

I think that some of the "neat" wiring on this post is phenomenal  :o

However, I am probably just like most of the builders on here and my mentality is if the lid closes and it works, then its GOOD TO GO!  ;D

So do I! My wiring has always been very messy, but I've never encountered problems or noise issues on any of my builds. Sometimes I look inside my boxes just to trifle my time and I often think that I have to do a collective re-wiring of them. A minute later I'm just like "nahhh!" :P

Now I only need some plastic/fake meatballs... :D

Nice work there Mills! I like it.

Those looks good Dave. I like the colors and soft gloss/texture.

It's been awhile since I've posted some pics up here. This is my latest build, a '77 Hotcake  :icon_cool: This is one of the nicest-sounding distortions I've ever built--I'm thinking of making another with some tweaks I played around with (some oscillation/resonance controls and voicing changes). Definitely worth building.

The enclosure was hand-painted by a friend of mine...I'm sure some of us can appreciate it  :icon_wink:
