the finish is a vintage candy apple with a metallic base coat. the text is metallic silver. after that there's about 6 coats of polyurethane clear.

with the primer, that's 4 kinds of paint... really love how this guy turned out! though i have no actual use for a buffer right now, it's fun to build stuff on your saturday from beginning to end...

I'm guessing it was a two color etch job for the paint.  I understand how you did the red, but after you sanded the text and graphic, how did you get the metallic base coat on there?

He's one of the few with access to a laser cutter :P  I believe the box was red and then laser etched.

it's was a couple of coats of primer with sanding between, then two coats of automotive metallic base coat with sanding between, then four even coats of candy red, then i laser etched through the red until i hit the metallic silver underneath, then gave it a quick clean up for all the clear coat. it's sitting in front of me ad i'm very proud of the result, will have to replicate one day...

Well worthy of pride!
Well done.. handy thing lasers  ;)

you bet Armando, all on my Saturday! just don't get in my way when i'm excited and determined to see something happen! in between coats of paint (and sometimes putting them in the oven) i would be running the etch job on the laser and putting the pcb in acid etc. multi-task and run around like a headless chicken :D

i've got my office setup for R&D now. it's a really good feeling to get something from a concept in your mind into a design on the computer and then a real 'product' in your hand, and keep in within the space of as few hours.

i'd love to have the time to do this all week, or even any weekend i want.. sigh... what a strange but awesome hobby we all have here!

it's late now.. i think i'm delirious...

I'm guessing the top has a lip with threads and the feet are screwed through the bottom, into the lip. How'd I do?
It's all about the tone!
