Rob, your latest project looks sick  :-X
Congrats!

Did you end up using a traditional LDR or is that some special LED-shaped sensor?

Keep up the great work!

deadastronaut

@phil: its a clear led with the legs cut off and sanded flat, with ldr glued under...nothing special...but cool, and well protected too.. :icon_cool:

I have built a couple of these as well, good fun. I'm curious what you made the enclosure out of, though. That's the tricky part, and it looks like you've got something that would work very well at that job.
:icon_rolleyes:Te black box is an old unfunctional mobile energy supply. I've removed the "plug" and made a hole for the circuit and the stuff, and thats all... Ah! And four rubber standas. :icon_mrgreen:

awesome work John!
what kind of circuit is that?

btw, the link in your signature gives me a 404, had to go back to the main index page. :D

beautiful, john. also those knobs are excellent ;)
my life is a tribute to the the great men and women who held this country together when the world was in trouble. my debt cannot be repaid, but i will do my best.

Thanks! It's a highly modified fuzz face with negative feedback and
a baxandall tone network.

Thanks for the heads up! I just change my site design and forgot to update my link here.

Thanks. I got the knobs from some wah tweakin', one knob big muff messin' guy in the southwest.  :D

great photos as always, john!  making me realize the need for a tripod and more photo practice...   :)

Those look cool Brian!  like the painted knobs and arty aspect.

I don't use a tripod most of the time. Practice is key though.  ;)

The person whose camera I was using had to take it back before I could get the porn. But here's the outsides at least.

Modded rebote 2.5 with momentary feedback switch.

This one is in the process of being repainted. It's a stratoblaster boost into a ts808 clone.

If it ain't broke...   ...it will be soon.

Strategy

here's the newest effort, been working on it for a couple years, quite a challenge. Not a pedal, but DIY effect that will be foot controlled. It's a Where's the Party At? sampler from narrat1ve.com, I bought a bare board and speced my own parts. Proved quite challenging to maintain the stability of the wiring etc. It's very low-fi, but very musical in spite of that. There's a version 2 forthcoming, but if you are adventurous you can buy version 1 pcb's and a pre programmed PIC chip and source your own parts.

I intend to make a MIDI foot controller specifically for this using the MIDI cpu project from www.highlyliquid.com. Typically I'll probably use this as desktop gear for sound designing samples and such.

The only loose end is that 1 of the arcade buttons (bought from sparkfun) is faulty. I thought it might be an electronic problem like a wiring glitch or a blown logic latch chip but I do get functionality if I press the sh*t out of the button. I'd say its a mechanical issue!

Hi All,

How do you do all that ? How can you make it DURABLE ???

I am really unable to do ANYpainted / coated finish which is correct and resistant...

An example : I have built a custom footswitch for my Boogie MKIIA...

1 - I cleaned the box with acetone in order to have neat and degreased surface.
2 - I wrote the lettering with undelebile pens.
3 - I coated the whole with a brand new automotive acrylic finishing varnish.
4 - I waited 4 hours of drying, the box being protected from excessive heat and direct sunlight.

But I noticed that AGAIN AND AGAIN I lost my time : the coat is nearly about to peel when you handle the box, anything touching it makes inevitably a crumbling scratch... that's AS USUAL !

So - again and again - congratulations to all of you who can achieve such nice artwork, if it is able to last and resist to normal use - I mean the normal use of a stompbox !

A+!
I apologize for my approximative english writing and understanding !

Although I can appreciate the work, i can't approve the destruction of a Commodore 64... I collect old computers and that is one I don't have.  :-[

sanding first is a must and lots of thin coats of clear - between 3-8 usually for me.

Strategy

@ Galego - the C64 was already destroyed before it came to me...So I recycled all the pieces. Usable parts went to a friend who can use the parts for his Commodore64-rebuilding projects :icon_biggrin:

The shell was going to be just thrown away so I used it.
