A ProCo Rat using the tonepad PCB.
Added the usual selectable clippers mod as an after thought.  It's early days but I like led clipping best.

I like Big Muffs! and I cannot lie, you other brothers can't deny...

BCD thumbwheels, from All Electronics (surplus) here in the states.  Use them to select the coupling capacitors.

How do you wire those switches?

This isn't mine, nor do I specifically recall the provenance, but it was posted years ago. Still, it is one of the most bad-ass things in this thread.

Ah, the old nail-to-nail routine ;D

Capacitors in parallel add, so it is just a common wire (input signal) feeding three spst switches.  .01 uF, .1 uF, and 1 uF come off of each switched terminal, then join in parallel to feed the base of the transistor.

001 (1) = .01 uF
010 (2) = .1 uF
011 (3) = .01 + .1 uF = .11 uF
100 (4) =  1 uF
101 (5) =  1 + .01 = 1.01 uF
110 (6) =  1 + .1 uF = 1.1 uF
111 (7) =  1 + .1 + .01 = 1.11 uF

Since I'm using for guitar only I'll probably switch to smaller cap values at some point, currently don't have a bass to try out.....

That's a really clever idea Mac, don't think I've ever seen it before.

Thanks, I've seen them used on modular synths before, but I haven't seen them in a stompbox.  Of course they are very common in instrumentation and test equipment....

Digital as I am, I'm not quite happy with your choice of values  ;)

010 - 001 = .09uF (900% increase)
111 - 110 = .01uF (,9%increase)

With less dramatic gaps (maybe 4x instead of 10x, 2x being "ideal" but that might not give you the range you need) in cap values you'd get less differentiation between steps. But it might be that the ideal "curve" for the cap values would be exponential or logarithmic (not that knowledgeable about caps and even less how they work in you circuit :) ).

he's FLAT OUT building for the aussies and japan after some recent video clips of his killer fuzzes. the new fuzzes are point-to-point so now i have very little to do with them :)
i made him a website in the last few days www.klingercustompedals.com
