John,

I haven't built in several years now, I just came across this thread because I was googling the Kay circuit that's been on my breadboard for 5 years.

I just can't stop admiring these, they blow me away.  You're handy craftsman, an artist, a player, a good photographer and an audio electronics freak that's managed to fuse all these talents into something special.  These aren't just pedals that were slapped together, they are true works of art.

Keep up the good work!
Chris

Very Kind Chris, thank you. Been a while since I've seen you around here. Hope you're well.

Here's a couple more I did today.

Wow, Glops, your reversed etch designs are beautifully done and very inspired. I love these rough industrial looks. :O

Hi glops. I have to ask; is this the same circuit as described as "Octave-Doubling Fuzz" in Andertons book "DIY projects for guitarrists"? Where did you get the PCB?

And... nice work on the enclosures:)

Cheers

I spy a Montreal Assembly PCB, by my friend Scott Monk : )
The Ring Mod it is based on is in "Electronics Projects for Musicians."

Out of curiosity, glops, what are all the switching options you put in yours?

Yep, it's Scott's board.

There's a low pass filter switch.  This is the second one of these I built and I used a lower value cap just to get rid of the right amount of high end. There's also
a toggle that switches between a 33K input resistor and a 18K.

The sound of this pedal with a noise ensemble in the loop is used for one of the best songs I play with my band.  With my older version of this pedal I always had a difficult time finding the exact frequency/tone to match which was always frustrating.  So the two toggle on the top help me with this.  The top toggle engages an onboard frequency pot (like my old one). When switched to the other position it goes to the DPDT below it which selects to frequencies/tones preset by trimmer's that I have perfed and mounted to the side of the enclosure.  If I were to make this one again I would lose the onboard pot altogether and just have an extra stomp to select between two settings.

I also didn't have a 2.5K nulling trimmer so I perfed up a 2K and 500R in series.  Amazingly, I am able to get rid of that carrier bleed through completely.
I wonder if Scott has anymore of these boards.  It sounds so good.  The effects loop makes it very versatile.  Definitely, a real ugly sound for certain types of music.

Cheers

There's been some incredible posts here lately, so in the interest of balance, here's my first build - finally completed after about 1.5-2 years (I lost track).  It's a modified ROG Improved EA Tremolo.  Lots of little flaws - but I'll do better next time!

GGBB,

That build looks pretty darn good to me!

Silly question but, would you let me know where you got the rubber feet on the bottom?  :icon_rolleyes:

I'm looking for that exact type  ;D

Finished this one sometime last week, it's the Madbean Afterlife Compressor. Added an attack knob which kind of tightens things up at the cost of some bass. Seriously on all the time now. I really love listening to strings being pulled, fingers sliding, etc etc. Really brings those details out nicely. Super simple build as well.

Thanks.

The feet - I don't remember specifically where they're from - sorry!  I had two different variety packs which both had those particular ones.  One pack came in my stocking last Christmas.  The other was from a hardware-ish store of some sort - Home Depot or Canadian Tire or maybe even a grocery store, pharmacy, or dollar store (everyone seems to sell everything nowadays) although I'd place my bet on Home Depot.  They are kind of common in my neck of the woods - I see them all the time.  The one package I still have (stocking) says "Likewise" (on the back - made in China, imported by a Toronto company).  I have a few that I could spare, so if you're really desperate, PM me your address and I'll pop a set in the mail for you.

I've bought feet like those at Menards too. Not sure if you have one of those where you are but...

See above, It was meant to be smoke grey over rustguard white/cream, but it came out a bit green. I like it anyway.
Thank you!
