What wattage laser are you guys using? I assume that one of the $800 40W "cheapies" for engraving crystal and stuff is not going to um, cut it. ;D Or maybe it would engrave the powder, but not etch the metal? I've wondered about using one of these as a chemical-free alternative to etching.

And that's where things get confusion with terminology.

In the world of CO2 lasers:

Raster - Engaving operation
Vector - Cutting operation.

Now, you can engrave with vector set on really low power, but usually it's Raster for etch, Vector for cut.

Now, when I am etching a box (can't cut it anyway), I use a Raster operation even though I send a vector-based file.

A good way to visualize it is that raster goes side to side, then down, then side to side, then down, etc...  Basically like an old dot matrix printer.

a vector operation is like a plotter.  If I am cutting a box out of acrylic, it might go up along the left side, then right along the top, then down along the right side, then finish by going left along the bottom.

I'd like to see the knob that goes on that one ;)
Bââââ.

I just googled; 'biggest knob',  well, that was a huge mistake...

garcho

Just be thankful you didn't google "biggest shaft".

Now, where did I put my coat...

haha, trust me, the results wheren't all that different...  I'm glad I didn't post that picture of my dakaware DW2300 chickenhead collection titled 'I love knobs' on facebook. As a non native english speaker you have to be extra carefull choosing the right words.

I was asked by a friend to make these for his two sons. I had a really great time doing it. Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed making them.

Oh, I wasn't talking about you.   ;)

Or is that a caption to the picture? Ha! I was thinking more like this:

"Hmmmm this flux capacitor doesn't seem to be quantum dark mattering enough... Damn, that's right, Timmy has soccer on Tuesdays now. Awwww $%^&@, there goes poker night. Maybe Jane can drive him..."

I was holding off posting this here until I got it dialed in just right.

ADA Flanger.

Some changes since the photos were taken -- replaced the Wicked Switch setup with a 3PDT (IC's were getting quite hot, possibly due to too much signal during testing), and replaced the TC1044SCPA with a LT1054CP from Cooder (as the TC1044 cannot supply enough voltage -- I was getting about 12.5V after the regulator. The LT brought it back up to 15V.)

It spent a few weeks at this stage, until I got a new o'scope.

She's a thing of beauty! It sounds better as a flanger, but occupies a different space to the Lovetone ?Flange (the weirdo.)

I plan on replacing the blu-tack stand-offs... well, when I get around to dropping into Mitre 10 to see if they have any.

ADA Flanger.

SWEET looking build Alan. I am really starting to regret getting rid of my A/DA  :'(

Did you do the suggested mods for the Threshold? (100K instead of the 10K). Also, did you use a 2N2646 for the UJT transistor?

I wonder if moose has any left?
