Use the link below to see the pics. This is my fisrt amp build and after minor troubleshotting it was up and singing! It sounds amazing. Sweet tube tone and it breaks up very early.  Like I said this is my first amp, not to mention I'm 18! Let me know what you think. My friend has already payed me to build him one and I plan to build more. I love this stuff.

Real nice work!  I made one tube amp a long while back. It doesn't come close to your workmanship.  I may have to rehouse the whole thinn now!

The off white amp in the background is my Princeton copy.
Real plain looking

Peace!

Nice 18-watt!  I'd like to hear it next to my 65 London combo.  Are those Sozo caps?  They sound great...

looks cool man,

I am going to build a 18watter very soon too.  Hey, Was that a kit or did you order parts yourself?  Did you try it with a external cab or only it's own so far?

In your opinion, What kinda of amp does your amp sound the most like?

I have been contemplating the high octane vs, Marshall 18watt clone.

Paul Marossy

Nice job for a first effort. I like that is has a distinct personality, too.  8)

I bought all of the parts myself.  To me, it really has its own sound. It breaks up very early and has lets of awsome overdriven tone.  If I had to put it to a cirtain amp, it would probly be something along the lines of a low watt Bogner or a Matchless.  No I havent tryed an external cab but I would like to. It would darken the tone some.

hey milkwasabadchoice (or something like that)

Where did you get your chassis and board? Did you do the drilling yourself? And finally, do you perhaps have plans for the cabinet? (I'd like to build one of my own).

Thanks. Sorry about the questions.

Ever play out with it yet?
What kind of guitar /pedals do you run into it?

QuoteWhere did you get your chassis and board?

I worked this summer at an airconditioning sheet metal shop. We built the air duct fot big buildings. I broke, or bent in people terms, the chassis there on a hand brake.

QuoteWhere did you get your board?

Hoffman amps supplied the board. Very resonable on prices.

QuoteDid you do the drilling yourself?

Yes, here again a guy that I worked with had a uni-bit drill bit that I borrowed.  I drilled all the holes to 1/4" the used the uni-bit to finish.

QuoteDo you perhaps have plans for the cabinet?

Well I modified the 18 watt lite cab plans from Silvatone. I drew my modded plans in solidworks then built it.

QuoteEver play out with it yet?
What kind of guitar /pedals do you run into it?

Well I play every wed and sunday at church and I am planning on starting to practice with it just to make sure its realiable. So far (3weeks) I haven't had one problem!

I Play through a:

(DIY) Orange Squezr Comp >

(DIY) TS-808 Overdrive >

Crybaby >

DOD Phaser (Thats about to get tha boot!) >

Vintage Sansuni Reverb Unit >

DL4 Delay >

(DIY) A/B Box with tuner mute.

I guess I'm building a nice assortment of pedals slowly but surley.

I am getting ready to build These pedals:

-Tremulus Tremolo-

-SmallClone Chorus-

-Mod my Crybaby-

-Ultra Clean Power Supply-

I built TWO of these amps one for me and another for a friend. They are identical. You could not tell them apart.  So that got me a lot of good experience, I guess.

Patrick, feal free to ask any questions you want or need to! Just email me @ jstulce@gmail.com I can provide help and pics to show you stuff.

Anyone know if the Ultra Clean Power supply is good? Which one is good to build without having to go seperate transformers?

aaronkessman

nice work on the twisted pairs. keep everything both clean looking and sounding :)

So, you build it from scratch? Very nice! If you care to disclose it, what kind of money did you have in it? This build looks within my ability. Is the parts list and build available on another site some place?

There's a nice list of projects, including the circuit for milk's great looking amp, at http://ax84.com/.

Can you give us an idea of how you did the two-tone grill cloth?  The tolex looks really nice.

My final question. Where did you get the cool beige chicken head knobs?
