Changes to insanity box ICs and FETs

Hi, im new here and want to build an inssanity box because it sounds awesome and right up my alley.  However i am from new zealand and googled the ICs and FETs used in the schematic and no results were returned on searching just new zealand pages.  
I was just wondering how using different op amps, CMOSs and FETs would affect the circuit.  Would it just change the sound or would it not make the circuit work at all.

The FAQ shows different FETs you can use with the Insanity. Maybe others will chime in with CD4049 replacements....

Don't know what you pay for parts you buy locally, but sometimes mailorder can be real cheap, meaning you can get the specified parts for the circuit.
