tube sound fuzz alteration

i'm a huge fan of the tube sound fuzz, but the all or nothing nature of the hi gain is a bit of a drag.
tried dropping in a 10k lin pot instead of the boost switch, but it didn't work so well.
anyone got any ideas about this?

Hi.
I've built a tame one with a 10k input pot and 100k feedback resistors around each inverter.  It's quite mild.  For details, see my website.
