Finished my first FX last week.  Thanks to you guys and the awesome service at Tonepad it came out great.  I've never used a compressor as a pedal before, but after using this one I may never go without.  It adds just enough punch to the clean channel on our little Marshall MG15DFX to really grab you.  I'll probably never mess with the overdrive channel again.
My 16 year old son wants a fuzz pedal next....so here I go again.

So hat's off to this forum!

What?  Do my ears deceive me?  Has the world gone completely mad?  Is the moon about to crash into earth?  Is the ruble about to be worth more than the rand?  Did Roger Ebert suddenly recognize the genius of Hillary Duff?  Have Tommy Lee's tattoos and mammo-philia suddenly disappeared?  Do the Gallagher brothers actually *like* each other now?  Has Marilyn Manson gone 7th Day Adventist?  Have Bush and Rumsfeld decided that constantly squinting sets a bad example for the youth of tomorrow?  Have all my fellow Canadians decided to never say "Sorry" or "Excuse me" ever again?

A 16 year-old boy....and a....a...a....fuzz box?

Just goes to show you.  Stick around here long enough and you're bound to hear the most bizarre things.    Phew.  I need a cup of coffee.

Seriously, congrats.  When you reach a certain age, it's nice to know you can still have an ace up your sleeve to be thought of as "cool" by your kids.  Now, if you can just find that extra ace in the *other* sleeve so that your wife is still willing to wait until 1AM after you've finished putting on the lettering and installed the pots? Cool is nice, but so is warm.

I think by fuzz box he means death metal distortion

Congrats! That was my second or 3rd project. Since then ive been addicted to building and have built 6 or 7 diff compressors since AND THE OS IS STILL ONE OF MY FAV'S. If i recall, You can ajust the trim pot and adda little gain to it.

Hey, thanks for all the great kudos.  Yes, this pedal thing is addictive.  The 16 year old in question is "veritably steeped in old-timey music" thanks to me, the 42 year old dad.  No modern death metal to be found in his I-pod (wish I could afford one) or my collection.  I guess exposure to "old school" rock has warped his youthfull mind, so  a fuzz box it is.
Then I think I need to find plans for a multi-output headphone amp for our cubase studio.  When he and his buddies are in there it'd help to have more than two 'phones available.

  :D   Happy soldering!

Congratulations. OS was my first build too :D

Paia offers a headphone distribution amp kit. You can get the schematic from their website (it's free).

A family of rock n' roll... this makes me feel all warm inside and wish to have kids of my own to turn into gearheads. :D Oh well, I've still got other little relatives to influence.

Me and my father likes Rock n' Roll too :P. I grew up listening Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and other cool bands. If your son likes Rock n' Roll, a good suggestion for a gift is the MXR Zakk Wylde overdrive. I built one a few days ago, and when I use it to practice in my bedroom, I use to play a long Red House version with it, and some Lynyrd Skynyrd too. I think your son will like it.
