We need a new stompbox myth...

I propose that we start this school of thought:
Connect multiple caps in parallel instead of purchasing a larger size. For example, Instead of using 1uf metal films, better tone comes from using 10 .1ufs in parallel...for SUPER tone, string 100 .01uf's together in parallel.

That's my new 'mojo' myth I'm starting anyway. Or, your idea (just for fun, folks! :) )

Take care,
Brian

Or, how about - You get the best tone out of electrolytic caps if you first peel the plastic off of the outside to reduce signal dampening

Or... gold solder...  8)

I say that everything needs to be socketed...  resisters, caps, etc.

Well, there could be some truth to that "myth". Doing this greatly reduces the effective equivalent series resistance.

and this cap-battery has better impulse response - the voltage can rise and fall with n x speed of one cap - that gives better highs.

and something more general: higher cap(s) voltage is - better highs you will get.

So instead putting 100nF / 25V try 100nF /25000V bhehe

1. Operating the true bypass footswitch in shoes with synthetic soles causes 'limp' treble and 'grainy' distortion.

2. Gently rubbing the tears of a Marmoset on the contacts of the jack sockets improves pick attack.

3. To improve the tone of your Fuzz pedal it is essential thet the words 'gain' and 'tone' are printed in a script typeface like Brushscript rather than Arial or Verdana. Times New Roman is really bad when the gain is maxed (or any serifed typeface come to think of it).

1.) pedals sound better when your 9v adapter is running off of wall power coming from a coal burning plant instead of a nuclear power plant.

2.) Hydrolic power creates a rushing noise in the line so you have to use extra filtering.

Taking one of the rubber feet off the bottom of your wah pedal will make you sound like Jimi Hendrix.

A Magic Rubber Band on your vintage Fuzz Face will make you sound like Eric Johnson.

Having a wah pedal with a red Fasel in it will make you sound like Slash.

A vintage TS808 will make you sound just like Stevie Ray Vaughn.

All of the Fuzz Factory schematics on the internet are correct.

Haven't heard that one but i did notice the other day my true bypass has more clarity when i step on it with chimp poop on the bottom of my shoe...

So do you have a pet chimp or do you buy it somewhere?

When you use silver solder under the full moon your pedal has a "wolfier" tone.

All effects pedal should face east every morning to get a real glowing rising tone.

Pedals painted green smell better.

"Nu-Mojo" = Anti Mojo. IE "dont listen to the mojo, buy my non-mojo"
"does exactly what it says on the "tin". "

Effects pedals made from hollowed out cannon balls from the battle of hastings deliver the real cranked british amp sound.

The haggis pedal - circuit board wrapped in sheeps stomach.

Stem cell research can make you sound like your guitar hero, steal his DNA and grow his hands, surgically graft them on own arms.

This pedal was spray painted on the grave of (insert guitar hero here).

The enclosure once held the ashes of (insert guitar hero here), now it holds the circuit of wonder.

This pedal will make your penis grow.

This pedal will make women want you.

This pedal was made with capacitors that use spanish fly as an electrolyte, whenever it is engaged it sends women wild.

This pedal uses paper capacitors made out of cosmopolitan magazine, get the true crying woman tone.

Every pedal shipped with your choice of drug inside.

Yes its a phallic symbol.

ok, thats enough.....

Depending on what kind of caps they are.. for some foil caps, it's going to reduce the inductance, anyway.

If you paint your pedals with nitrocellulose lacquer they will have more of a vintage tone.

I have some Reranch laquer left over and I always wanted to see if it would hold up better then paint - Hmmmmmmmmmm - I'll let you know how the tone comes out..  :D

"This pedal is made of no vintage parts at all, all low-cost modern, saturated digital chips are used instead of tubes, the all-in-one power comes with ultra stable filtering, no endorsements, no publicity, no fancy fonts and it could easily be used as a hifi preamplifier. If you play on it creating a very nice guitar tone, it will be YOU, no one will be able to blame it on mojo...

300$ VAT exc."

Effects made with SMD parts produce a small flat sound.   The electrons cannot move freely in those tiny parts.  Also the electrons don't have to travel far making them faster and that causes the tone to become harsh and brittle because there's too much fast high frequency stuff going on.

In Tubes, the electrons have a lot of room to move thus providing a very free and open sound, physically they bigger and rounder.  Big round caps help as well.

I like the electron flow mojo stuff the best.

QuoteIt is extremely important to deliver this complex signal with the least amount of change caused by the wire itself. Elimination of impurities which cause damage to the signal is very important if accurate sound quality is to be expected. Collision of the complex electron flow with the impurities is heard as harshness or brightness and/or veiling and dullness, since the harmonic structure of the signal has now been modified. Since these effects happen on a molecular level, it is easy to compare these collisions with the action of a diode, which also uses impurities by design to control the electron flow. Obviously, we do not wish to alter the complex musical or video signal, so wire that's just "good enough" in this case is simply not good enough! Once the signal accuracy is lost, it can not be recovered later downstream. For this reason, Harmonic Technology's unique purity processing is of great importance to audiophiles interested in obtaining correct signal accuracy and purity.

...And later about the same products:

QuoteThe RCA plugs feature a locking outer barrel which can be twisted to increase tension. This can be used as a "tuning" device to alter the size of the specific images within the sound stage.
There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

How about this?  If you get a Strat, a Marshall, a wah and a Fuzz Face, you can be Jimi Hendrix.

Oh, wait, I think that one has been done already.

Okay, some others....

Great sound can only come from big amps and overwound pickups on old instruments.

No, I guess that won't fly either.

Um....fuzz can make *anyone* sound talented?  Nah, too much obvious contrary evidence there.

Okay, my final offerings...

The battery...wait for it...has to be perpendicular to the input/output jacks.

Stompswitch lugs have to point downward for decent tone.

If you mount a JRC4558D upside down (i.e., bend the pins the other way and install so that the top layer of the IC is closest to the copper side of the board) you get less noise.
