I'm looking to do some mods to my black russian BMP.  Basically I want to make it true-bypass, replace the jacks, pots, LED, and to add a power jack.  Does anyone know of any good online guides to do this?  While I have good soldering skills, my overall electronics knowledge is lacking.

Thanks for any help or tips you can provide.

Replacing the jacks wouldnt do much. Unless they are broken.

I can put a tutorial for how to add a power jack because Im doing it to my Vox wah tonight. So look for it on my webpage later tonite.

Changing pots is pretty easy. When you take the old ones out, remember which lug each wire was soldered to. Then when you replace it with a new one, just solder those wires to the same lugs.

I can post how to change your LED tutorial tonite. It wont be exactly the same as yours since I dont have a BMP but itll be close and the process will be the same.

And as for true bypass...I cant help you there. I dont have a BMP yet, but I do plan on getting one for my webpage since mods to that pedal are very popular. Until then maybe someone else can help you out better than me.

True bypass

click on the geofex link at the top of this page, then twentytwo subjects down the postings, there is an article called wrappers. The second generation version c is the easiest unless you have a 3PDT but no LED. I seem to remember reading somewhere that big muffs have different sized swirches than the commonly available ones, maybe?

Why replace the pots unless they are broken? ditto led? ditto jacks?
The power jack can be usefull, but I don't find a BMP to be a huge drain on a battery.

P.S. ultrabright leds and funky color leds s**t me to tears, its just there to tell you if its on or not. Then again I rarely paint my pedals and just label them with a texta or an old label maker wheel thing.

Not sure why you'd want to change the pots, unless they are noisy, which is easily solved with a bit of contact cleaner sprayed inside them.  As was pointed out, the jacks do not likely need replacing, unless you are attempting to create an "audiophile" or over-engineered unit for some sort of high-demand use.  Personally, I was of the impression that these units WERE true bypass, though admittedly I haven't looked inside one.

As for power jacks, I'm surprised it doesn't have one since even some of the E-H stuff from 30 years ago did.  Not unless you are referring to a dfferent sort of power jack, like using a barrel type instead of a phone jack.

i have a green russian, which is very similar to the black russian.  definately not true bypass.  sounds enormously crap in bypass actually, and i'm not one of these audiophiles.  I true bypassed it at some stage in the past, and now i actually use it.  lost an LED cause i'm using the same DPDT.  Oh and they don't have power jacks.
