Hi I'm building a small gift for my bass player: a bazz fuzz.

I saw a few different values when searching this up but I don't have a bass so can't experiment. The standard input is 4.7U and the output is 0.1u.
Do you think that increaing the output to 1u would cover it or do I need to crank up the input too? He plays a stingray, think it has active PUs.

Try it out how it sounds. I usually made them with 10 µf on both in as output.

Hi.
The lowest frequency passed depends on both the caps and the resistance.
For a 100k output pot, a 0.1uF cap has an Fc of 16Hz.  That's a full octave below gut-wrenching, and below what your ears can hear (though you may still feel it through your body as a kind of "wobble").
I'm not sure what the input impedence is, but you can safely assume it's at least 20kohms so a 0.47uF cap will do (I believe that because this is a very high gain configuration for Q1, the resistance will be approximately equal to the value of the resistor connecting the base of Q1 to ground).

Although they are commonly used, I think that small electrolytics (2.2 to 10uF) are gonna dry out and die one day, and they add a (very) little mushy distortion, so why not use smaller value greencaps or MKTs instead?

I'm with brett on this - I was fooling with a Bazz Fuss last night and the smaller value film caps sounded alot better to me. I like a tighter more defined sound. The larger electrolytics were too farty/messy for my tastes.
I was using a bass and keyboard amp for testing. Low volume though.
I'm going to socket the caps and let my bass player friend have the last word on it.
I like .056 input .047 output. Those values were (along with several other recommended values) from the Bazz Fuss article at homewrecker.com. They seem like small values to use and maybe were intended for six string guitar use, but they sounded good to me.

Socket the caps and don't worry too much about what's in it right now.

I don't if you were planning on building the transformer version, but I would if there is any chance of active pups being used.
Personally I like the sound of a 4u7 for the input cap in the BF, but I use it more for a synthy/wooly effect, not as a *distortion* per se. Never fooled with the output cap.
