I've been using 2 Big Muffs and a Big Muff clone for the past few years and I'm selling two of them and keeping the clone.  I just want something new.  Anyone care to point me in a new direction?  Thanks!

I can't tell if your sick of the Big Muff Sound exactly or generally...
If you want a BM 'type' sound that's close but different, know for good sustain, the Whisker Biscuit.
I've just been using a booster [many types, 1 at a time] before:
 DIST+
Muff Fuzz [Gus' Muff Fuzz Mods]
Tube Reamer...I just voiced the caps and did some clipping diode mods on these OA builds.
 18
 Supreaux
 FF
Are all your recent Big Muff trials with Opamp or transistor BMP's? And do you have a preference or observations about the differences between the two types of BM's ?

Does anyone know of a pedal that gets to the highest gain/distortion in existence?

I'm looking for that really cool 'strum a hugegley distorted cord and it goes on forever' sort of sound....

Soundclips would be cool.

Thanks

Two BOSS Metal Zones in series.  Or even one.

mkII tonebender~
or a 3 knob tonebender, if you are used to having the tone control.
i don't think i could ever imagine playing a solo without a tonebender.
jut my opinion tho.

I'll have to chime in for BSIAB II.  Its not the most amount of "crazy gain", but its got plenty of gain, and the beautiful thing is the touch sensitivity.  Strum a light chord at full Drive, and you can hear every note; dig it, and it rocks!  Not the end-all pedal, but awesome to have in a rig (especially w/ tube amps).  Nice unique sound, and it cascades well w/ other distortion boxes/amps.

Oh ya:  the sound isn't quite "fat".  You might want to audition higher value caps for C4 and C12.

Doesn't Aron have a high-gain pedal project in the works for another beginner project? Hint, hint?

I built a Whisker Biscuit a short while ago and like it for the fat sustain fuzz sound, but it does have a similarity to the BMP sound.

Try a Tyco-Octavia turned up to the max!

You might want to try a Great Cheddar (RG Keen's clone of a Big Cheese) for some high gain fun. I love mine and I can get a range of hot fuzz as well as some crazy gated sounds with a turn of the rotary switch. The tone knob is very effective as well. Great pedal overall and a bit different from a BMP.

Doug Hammond's "Hot Silicon"

Or his "Meteor"

ROG's "Three Legged Dog", a nice 4049 based distortion. Now with a nice pcb layout that will fit in a 1590b.

Phillip Bryant's "Liquid Drive", a souped up Dist.+ type ckt that can easily be adjusted to get as fat as you want.

What about the Insanity Box?  I built it and it's the center piece of my sound.  I included mini toggle switches to bypass the 3 individual sections however I wanted and it's SUPER versatile.

That is a really cool idea.. did you have to do anything special besides add three switches in strategic places?  How hard was it to build this pedal?

I've been using an "LM317'd" [adjustabe voltage] Minibooster into :
Liquid Drive [larger value input cap]
 Zakk Wylde
or BMP [sorry, but I have, and it's different than BMP alone]
 or DS-1 Klone
 or VooDoo OD
 Pretty much all 'stock'.
Question about your BMP's...Did they all show different performance characteristics like tone/noise etc. ?
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

got a summer to build? got patience? got a bald head, to avoid hair pulling? go after Dr. Boogey. sounds fantastic, even with the gain backed off (and i'm not a low gain kind of guy). if you can defeat the oscillation, you will have a powerful beast as your ally.
