Yes, it DOES do thru-zero flanging!  It's an amazingly amazing pedal.

BTW, I bought two - does anybody want one?  New in box with plastic bags and manual, $185 shipped in the US.  I will ship internationally but you'll need a new wall-wart to power it.  (sorry for the spam!)

Through-Zero Flanging is a special kind of flanging - basically, all the action in the flange is when the delayed signal is only offset from the straight signal by a small amount.  The best flangers have wide sweep ranges, meaning that the minimum and maximum delay times available are very far apart.  The A/DA Flanger has (supposedly) a 35:1 sweep ratio.  I've had one of those for years, and it sure does do a WICKED flange.

The secret to TZF is that the straight signal is also delayed by a small amount - let's call it 10ms.  As the flanged signal sweeps, its delay time might sweep from 5 or 20 ms (these delay times are probably all wrong, Mark Hammer would know better)  A "normal" flanger can never have less of an offset than (in our example) 5ms, the lowest available delay time from the swept delay.  But in the TZF, the flanger can have an offset of ZERO, when the swept delay time is 10ms.  The real key is that it goes THROUGH zero, and passes out the other side.  That's where the real tweezy pinched wicked bits happen.

Can the Flanger Hoax do TZF?  You bet your bippy it can.  As Ton says, since both the delays can sweep along different points of the quadrature oscillator, they can go through zero once or twice per trip of the LFO.  Cool?  Heck, yes.
