I'm getting a buzzy hum with my old crybaby

It's an old jen Mister Crybaby (has a power jack).  When I turn it on I'm getting a rather loud buzz from it.  It's not loud enough for me to not use it live but for recording it annoying.  It happens when using a battery or the power jack.  Any ideas of what's causing this?
