Recently I stained a kitchen sink with that damned stuff. Its the stuff from Radio Shack after etching my boards. After cleaning my toilets with this AWSOME cleaner called ZEP toilet cleaner I though whay not try it. And it worked!! I know theres been a few threads around here about what can take those nasty stains away  and this stuff does it. I probably sound like an employee ect.. I would if theyd hire me. :icon_razz:

I don't know what your'e supposed to do with that stuff when you're done with it, but the poop plant guys probably have a hard time feeding the microbes when there's etchant solution in dilution.

Septic tanks can handle a fair ammount of copper. I can't imagine ferric chloride or persulphate in domestic quantities being any problem. Jimbob, can you tell me what the ingredient of the Zep toilet cleaner is? They make so many different products I couldn't google it successfully. If it comes to that, I can't really imagine what the etchant stains are made of..

On the subject of etchants - I'm always dubious about pouring it down the sink.

I use a spare bottle to pour the used etchant into then throw it in the rubbish bin outside.

Should make excellent weed killer....for driveways and walkways, I wouldn't add any to a lawn area...

KORGULL

I think the ingredient that really does the trick in the Zep and other industrial strength toilet cleaners is Hydrochloric acid. Also has Phosphoric Acid in it.
Watch those fumes.  It is probably only intended to be used in water not in the open air.
It also has the potential to do its own damage to your sink if you're not careful.
I used to use a similar product (Avril Bowl Brite) in my window cleaning business - it could clean 20 years of built up mineral deposits/oxidation caused by rain water passing through a metal window screen. It could also etch the glass if you aren't careful.

OK, if it is hydrochloric acid, here's a headsup:
NEVER mix cleaners together at random. It is possible to generate quantities of chlorine gas this way, and at least one person has been killed cleaning a toilet like this. An uncomfortable, and undignified, way to die.
