Presumably the 'Check/Mute' LED is an on/off status indicator?  If so, does it only work if an effect is plugged into the send/return jacks or should it work regardless?  Anyone have a schematic they can send me?  The LED doesn't turn on and I don't have a manual. :icon_rolleyes:

False alarm.  I'd replace all the electrolytic caps earlier today and one of the tops of the cans must have been shorting something or other as when I took the back off the LED was working again.  Just bent some of the caps on their side and all is well.

I bought this thing sometime in the mid to late nineties to gate a reverb.  Didn't work very well for that purpose so the pedal got shelved (hence my ignorance about its workings).  Hard to imagine, but I never thought to try it with my guitar until today - pretty nice unit!

Don't have the time to trace it, but for those who are interested there are a lot of SIL chips in there.  Mainly op-amps but all the magic seems the result of a Voltage Controlled amp (though I don't remember the code and I'm not about take the back off again - sorry!).  Rapid sell a similar chip, though these things aren't cheap…

Stephen, you always seem to come to the rescue with these things!

Thanks, although I don't need it anymore I love looking at this sort of stuff!  :icon_twisted:

The NS2 is neat because in addition to working well, the input can be used as a sidechain to control the gate with other stuff than clean guitar.

Hmm, I've got to start experimenting with my NS-2 I had it 20 years and never even plugged anything into the send/return jacks.
Only a couple months ago did I first use the 9V power send jack (didn't need it before I started building my own FX and ran out of empty power jacks on my pedalboard  :icon_wink: )
Here's a link to a pretty good article I just found that explains a bit about sidechains. It's a two page PDF download. Looks like some other good articles on that site too. http://www.musictechmag.co.uk/mtm/features/sidechain-processing
