the holes sound perfect.  The only thing I would change is move the 9v jack to the front.
...

you mean: the back , doncha?

9v socket on the far face is easy, and something I'd considered anyway - it's where it is at the moment to reduce the cable runs from the battery chamber. The effect-wrapper idea (including jacks and switch and such) is a good one too - I'll bear that in mind. :)

Thing is, I like having the LED by the footswitch - much easier wiring that way! Plus it means no wasted space - it just takes up the blank room on one side.

Andi

A couple of renders of a slightly different idea. Separate lid for each section, slightly funkier styling that also leaves the central area nice and rectangular, so easier PCB shaping.

Doing it this way works out to about $15, so I'll tweak a bit and see if I can reduce that.

I like that you think about space for a pcb, but personally I find it ugly...
Depending on the price (mainly for transport to belgium) I might be interested, but not if the box is not rectangular...  maybe it's stupid from me, but I would find these boxes not fit between my other effects pedals... in my eyes it looks cheap, it looks like a box that was intended for something totally different, adapted to serve as an effects pedal.
Please don't take this personal, I like your ideas, but I don't like this design with the screw holes outside of the box.

Andi

No offence taken - I'm undecided about that shape myself.

Hal

yea, I actually agree with the indicator by the footswitch.  But I like the adapter jack in the front, (as in that picture) becuase I use all metal couplings...

Andi

DC socket on the far end also reduces the clutter of cables, so that's likely where it'll stay. I've been looking at battery drawers instead of a two-part lid - even easier in use, but a bit more pricey. So many options...

Killer Queen

I'd certainly be interested. Prefer the LED above the stompswitch, but I can live with it if I don't have to bother drilling and stuff!
Don't really like the look of the `funkier styling`, and I don't think it's really worth the extra price compared to the more basic idea. (Battery drawers perhaps would be...)
Still, definately interested. Especially if it was with Jacks/switch/LED/etc- that would be great. As would teh option of having it finished.

Wah casing doesn't even need mentioning- produce a wah shell, and you'll get rich   :icon_biggrin:

Andi

I think I'll leave the wah shell idea for a while - it's just too complex for my meagre CAD skills. It's occured to me though that the best way to do a wah shell would be to take a Crybaby shell to a diecasting shop and ask them to reproduce it with enough tweaks to avoid litigation... ;)

Hi Andi,
I like the first picture design, not the one with screws on the outside. If you go with the first one, I'd be up for 20-30 of them depending on the final price /shipping.

Sloped front to back?  :icon_confused:

I don't know! I can slope the sides slightly, but I think having one end higher than the other might be beyond the capabilities of the design software. I'll investigate.

sloped enclsures.

I don't think I'm a huge fan...it seems like it would cut down on the usable area.

Andi

I'm not sure the software supports that sort of thing - it's quite simple in many respects. I'll investigate though.

I like how the old Mu-tron pedals look and are layed out, how about a mini version?

It has plenty of room for pots, and if you wanted to you could go double thick on PCBs (if they were horizontal in the enclosure) for big circuits or 2 circuits in one box.
If you're interested in a design like this (and if it were possible to make with your  manufacturer) you can have it if I could get some of the enclosures at cost.

PS in any case for diecast boxes you'd need to have a draft of 3 degrees or so on the sides so they don't stick in the mold.

Penguin

Hmm not to try to steer away from custom boxes. but i kind of had a similar problem i wanted batery access without having to unscrew.  so before painting i just used a dremel to make a battery compartment.  that way i poprivet the lid closed and a screw holds the lid in place for the battery cover. since then i found a small cutting wheel that i use to just cut them all before hand.  works nice on the dd boxes cause of the six screws.

but just as effective on any hammond box

Hey Penguin, I have been thinking about trying to make a battery door out of the bottom of a Hammond box. Do you have any pictures of what you are talking about? I hear the Analog man boxs have something like this, but I have never seen one.

Thats a design I like!
