A Fantastic analog Flanger !!

I've been looking for one of these for three years !
Found it on Ebay and luckily, no one else was interested.
It's the Yamaha FL-01 from their "PSE" Professional sound effects series.
"Jacques" the wacky French builder states that its one of the best Flangers
ever made and would "pay any price" for one !! ( www.ts808.com )

I understand why, the guitar's tone is retained when engaged, with just a slight
loss of bass and a nice "sparkle" to it.
It will do everything from "Jet Flange" through to gorgeous "leslie/Univibe: tones
and will "play itself" if you whack the feedback high enough  ! 
I'm not certain that its doing "through zero" flanging but it is very very good !

If anyone has one/has comments let me know, this baby is staying with me
to the grave  !!

Hey,i like those pedals.
Had quite a few of them but sold them unfortunately.
If i recal correctly yamaha had a huge pedalboard that could house the lot of them.

That's correct, there's no 9v PSU connection, instead there's a "hatch" on the back that has a multi
connnector, they were kind of "hot swoppable" into a floorboard.
I have the Tone booster which has the same connection !
Quite an interesting set of stompers.
Most pedals that are quite old and "japanese" seem to sound great 
The Tone booster is also very high quality, so I may take photo's of that too

It's a "no-go" on the guts shots I'm afraid 
The board is tiny/packed and I'd have to remove the switch and jacks off
the board to get a good look/take photo's !
That's too dangerous and I love the sound too much to start de-soldering bits !

LOL, I've been collecting those for years... (the Yamaha **-01 series)
So far I've got:

Yamaha CH-01 - chorus/vibrato
Yamaha DI-01 - distrortion
Yamaha FL-01 - flanger (x2)
Yamaha LI-01 - limiter
Yamaha MP-01 - expression pedal
Yamaha NG-01 - noise gate
Yamaha OC-01 - octaver
Yamaha PE-01 - parametric equalizer
Yamaha TB-01 - tone booster

I'll see If I can trace some of them, they are great sounding effects!
The Flangers are indeed amazing, I even have the original manual... :^)
It states you can "make steel drum effects" by cranking the feedback,
setting speed and depth to zero and tune to freaquenty with the manual knob.

I've made a switch on the CH-01 Chorus to kill the dry signal to make it a wicked
sounding pseudo Vibe/vibrato, it's very rubbery sounding and can do a great leslie sim on higher settings.
(I'd love to clone this one into a wah shell for footcontrol of the rate)

The TB-01 tonebooster is also an undiscovered gem, I don't know what makes it tick but it has controls
for Gain Bass Treble and Volume and goes from a clean boost to a real dirty overdrive.
I mainly use it as a boost for my shredmaster, they soundvery dangerous together!

Last but not least I have a FB-40 floorboard enclosure wich can house 4 of any pedalsand
powers them as well as connects the pedals internally.
The MP-01 expression pedal can be used with the flangers (manual knob) and Parametric EQ
(frequency knob).

There used to be a japanese site with quite some info but it's long gone.
Anyway, I'd absolutely love to try the AD-10 once, they're real hard to find.

If you can please do so!  I think that more than the pre and post BBD EQ, what makes the most important difference in a Flanger or Chorus are the LFO and Clock related circuitry.  I think this is the place to concentrate the tracing efforts.

EDIT: I don't know if you meant the chip from the flanger or the AD-10. I'll post the pics anyway just for the heck of it, and because it's such a great pedal.

Is the AD-10 for sale? (I've been looking loooong and hard for one...)
I've got the FL-01 taken apart, , I will desolder the wires (after documenting)
And take pictures of the front and back. (prob. next week, mayebe sooner)
It looks like it has some dual layer traces though... 
It's indeed a very crowded board (like the AD-10) workmanship on this series
is really admirable, so cleverly designed!
The steel rails in the pic of the AD-10 holds a plastic mold that covers the entire PCB
and keeps it safe. The bottom of the enclosure comes on top of that.
I'm really intrigued by the footswitch design, it makes a really nice click.

Regarding the AD-10 picture, I'm intrigued by the following:

1) Two CD4066, eight analog switches!  Why so much switching "power" is needed?

2) Two MN3101, however a single MN3005 is visible.  Is there another below the metal bar?

3) Two CD4011, 8 gates! You would need just two of them to make a discrete flip-flop for the IN-OUT switching, leaving still 6 gates unused. It seems they might be used for the clock generation then, meaning the MN3101's are used only as a BBD drivers ?!

The design appears to be different from other delay pedals (Boss, Ibanez), and certainly worth investigating.
