The BF-2 is starting to make me nerveous. At the low end of the sweep there is some huge noise.
Is this normal? Is my input signal to low? Anyone a BF-2?

um, describe "noise". There's always some sweep noise present when you're not playing, espcially with the manual control maxed out.

With manual on zero (more chorus like use) and depth on 12 o'clock.
Actually with depth on zero, you get full noise all the time !!!

Steben, your BF-2 has to be acting up.  I used my BF-2 as a chorus for years.  Got residual hiss occasionally when I wasn't playing, but shutting off my amp took care of that.  I must admit, though, that I almost never used the manual control on mine.

The Manual and Depth controls on the BF-2 are very much like the same labelled controls on a number of other commercial flangers.  In order to assure the proper functioning of the sweep circuitry, the Manual control has less impact as the Depth control is increased.  In a sense, the Depth control is really a pan/balance/blend control between two voltage sources: the LFO and a DC voltage.  Thus, when the Depth control gets turned up, one is "asking for" more LFO signal and less of the DC offset voltage.  Rotating the Depth control the other way does the reverse.

I mention this because the source of any difficulty in the pedal might be identified by which Depth setting tends to generate the most noise (of the type you are hearing).

my BF-1 was doing that before I redid to psu - turns out the cap on the clock chip was leaking .... try replacing filter caps on the supply line before altering trimmers ...
