help in identifying salvaged parts

I have come across what appear to be germanium rectifiers.

They are the same size as germanium transistors, but have 4 legs.  Do these have any practical uses in effect pedals?

I dont know the code numbers, but I can tell you they came out of an old stereo.

Impossible to be sure, but they sound like germanium transistors to me - RF ones commonly had a fourth wire to the metal screen.

do you know if these would be of any use in pedals, could I maybe clip one of the legs? 

I made a bazz fuzz and put one of these Ge's in leaving out one of the legs, and it made it almost like a frequency boost.  Gave the guitar what sounded like more definition and presence.  I just dont know why it works!?

i have what looks like a standard poly film capacitor (kinda like ye olde tropical fish caps, but blue).... but it has 3 legs.

Could be a dual capacitor with one lead common to both caps, or more likely, I think, is a ceramic resonator with built-in capacitors going to the central pin.
