Hi,
This is my perf design for the Ruby Tuby preamp pedal. However i am having trouble with the gain control, I Wired this way it works and sounded good on full gain  :) but when i turned the gain down i got a whole lot of hum.  >:(

So i figured id wired the wrong way round, so i switched it, and this caused the pot to smoke (not a nice smell!!)  >:(
Now I cannot get the circuit to run at all, iv re-perfed it with new parts, still nothing.
(moral of the story if it ain't broke don't fix it)
I audio probed it and found out where the signal is lost:

Is it the tube which has gone? or is my layout wrong?
(btw, tube is brand new, power supply is 12.6v Regulated)
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance
Rob

Euhm...

I have to say it's a very very very strange circuit.
The gain pot also alters the working bias of the tube not only the gain.
You'ld better stick the 250k pot at the front as a pre volume control.
My 20 cents...

Rules apply only for those who are not allowed to break them

 ;D
Right iv been through da circuit and it works well now, (skool boy error, piece of solder bridging two tracks)
Thanks for the advice, yeah the gain control does alter the bias as well, but its kinda useful i guess, but generally id jus leave it in the same position so a trim pot would serve
So the layout does work after all, works as a nice boost pedal, if i work out how to record il post some sample at some point.
Thanks again,
really up for building the sopht amp now....
cheers

So I resurrect this topic...Is it verified? Anyone knows links to Vero/Perf version of Ruby Tuby or other schem from sophtamps^!^

hi,

is this layout verified?
I'd like to make one for bass, with some cap altering.

That would be good enough for me. Wouldn't take long to throw it together and find out

Putting a pot in series with anode resistor will not only change anode load, it will also create scratching sounds every time you touch that pot.
