2N4092 ????????

Someone gave me a bunch of 2N4092 transistors anyone have any idea of what application they could be used for.

As far as I can tell, they're n-channel JFETs.  You can use them for buffers, as variable resistors, for switching, boosters (muamp/minibooster etc), diodes...the list goes on (but not by that much   ).

The number rang a bell, since I have a few of these kicking around.  They are N-channel JFETs intended for switching.  You might find some data on the onsemi site, but here's some rough figures:

Vgs_off  2 to 7V
Idss greater than 15mA
Yfs  ~ 21000uS

These specs are right up there with switching JFETs, which are somewhat different to normal JFETS. You might have difficulties getting the bias points right if you sub them in other circuits.  As a variable resistor you might be pushing you luck sub'ing this with other JFETs.  Just try them out, you have nothing to loose, but it's highly likely you will have to tinker with the ckt to get it right.

I have a stack of them too, from when Bardwell's of Sheffield were selling them off comparatively cheaply. I've used them in all manner of circuits, including audio and effects, with great results every time.
