That's the assumption from everybody.  The only other possibility I could think of was that the boost mode was an active gain stage based round a MOSFET, but the switching on the box doesn't fit that.

Mosfets for clipping; as in Jack Oraman's Shaka 5??

Since it switches between normal and MOSFET with a single switch, it's probably similar to how the GlassPak works.
