I'm making some clones of the Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive with a friend, based on the schematic posted on this forum.  We’ve been leaving the input buffer off but otherwise following the schematic.
It’s way more transparent than any other TS type pedal I’ve owned or built, but it’s a little hard to dial in.  I’m already sold on the sound but I’m wondering if I should use reverse audio taper for the Level and Drive pots to get the controls to respond in a way I’m comfortable with.  The schematic shows a 1 Meg pot for drive instead of the 500k the TS uses.  It’s really cooking by the time the knob is at 9:00 in its rotation, and the same thing is true of the level control when the drive is turned up at all.   It works nicely as a boost with the clipping diodes switch in the center(off) position and the drive turned all the way down, unity gain is maybe 10:00 or 11:00 on the level knob at those settings.
Any suggestions, flames, etc?  I really like this thing so far, Small Bear 16mm reverse audio pots, guess I’ll try that next and order a couple of his special taper pots for Tube Screamer tone controls while I’m at it.
Does anyone know of any production pedals using reverse audio pots for gain or volume?

Try the 1m rev log for the gain. It would probably be more to your liking. I used one on a TS clone and liked it much better. MXR used rev log pots alot, for certain ckts the rotation progression is more natural sounding to the ear. And definately try the special taper tone pot.

You can always use a log taper, wire it up in reverse, and call it "Gain reduction".

The Hotcake by Crowther Audio uses a reverse log taper pot and it's very integral to the circuit. Don't ask me how I know this :icon_wink:

FYI if you want to stay true to the original, the Level and Drive controls are the log and linear respectively.  Same as in an SD-1 or 808.

That'd be the drive pot then ? I used a Log reverse wired as Mark said - sounds just as good. I must be missing something ...  ;)

cd's right, but when you go from the original 500k log Drive to 1M, you now have more gain variation cramped into the same 300 degree rotation. Then, the 1M rev. log has a more natural progression to the ear, at least in my experience. If you're ordering anyways, they're a buck more.
