I'm told that these are popular ones to clone, so I thought people might be interested in seeing some pictures of one of the originals.

I guess for the sake of guys with dial-up connections, I'll just post links instead of HTMLing the pics in.

I pulled this pedal out yesterday because the soundclips for the DOD Milk Box were giving me pedal GAS, so I figured I should dig up my old Ross Comprssor before buying something.  Had to get rid of that rotted foam, and it has a slightly dirty pot, but otherwise, it's really a pretty decent pedal.

No problem.

I was just looking around Ebay today, just out of curiosity, and holy crap.   That's just nuts.  They're definately not worth what some of them are selling for.

It's kind of funny by now, because I bought this Ross Compressor, because in my pre credit card days, I couldn't come up with a few more dollars to buy an MXR, which was what I really wanted.

I just built the ross comp recently.  I had a friend try it out and he said it sounded just like his block logo dyna comp (no led).
I don't get the ross comp hype nor the "mojo" TS808 (ive always been a tube amp distortion guy). The ross comp is a very useful effect (especially if you want to get your Santana or Phish on), but 300 to 400 bucks?  It's a hell of alot cheaper to build one.

Aren't a lot of the Ross pedals heavilly based on MXR pedals?

It seems to me that my Ross was a lot more over the top with compression than my friend's MXR, which he got shortly before I got my Ross.  It was the first I'd heard of compessor pedals.

I guess the Phish guy has a lot to do with the somewhat recent Ross popularity.

The whole TS808 thing, I wouldn't know what to say about that.  I've never wanted that TS sound personally.  I prefer my Rat pedal because it doesn't honk.

I used to have an original "Bud Box" brown Ross distortion.
I sold it on Ebay for over 140 bucks  !!
It was just a "Dist +" clone and nothing special  :icon_eek:
Some pedals just "aquire" mojo from a famous player using them
I have a bunch of stuff that I'm hoping that will happen to  :D
If I'd known about the "TS 808" craziness a few years ago, I
would have bought dozens of 'em !!
I've just been "given" another 808 which is broken, I'm sure I can
fix it ( recent fix for a friend worked out with some great help here )
and it's then worth about  500 - 600 bucks .. !!!   :icon_eek:

I have a Ross Chorus which makes a good noise, just "rate/Depth"
controls, a sweet chorus.
