Great price ($10), but it appears to have a flimsy enclosure. Using my own pots and jacks, do you think it would be possible to "rebox" this thing? Or too much hassle?

If the effect is worth it to you, I would say yes. I did something similar to a dod chorus. It made it truebypass and a more usable footswitch. I loved the effect but hated it's original switch.  I would also closely measure the guts and the hammond box just to make sure it would fit well without overdue hassel.

Another alternative would be to make a true bypass looper box for the rockteck. So if you grow not to like the effect anymore you still have the truebypass box.

Possible?  Sure.  Practical?  Depends:

box: $8
footswitch: $10
jacks: $3
pots & knobs: $5
misc (LEDs, wire, etc.): $1
total: $27 + $10 + labor

Weigh that against your other options (used BOSS or Digitech phaser) and make a decision accordingly.  If the tone of the Rocktek is junk, it's still going to be junk even if it's in a fancy box with true bypass.

If it still sounds like the old Rocktek phaser, it's well worth the money. In fact, at that price, buy two.

I bought one today, and the EQ!!

I'll just play em' around the house if nothing else.

Will you report back when you've played with them? I value a fellow builder's opinion over an H-C review, especially because of the flimsy enclosure on these.

I've been on a cheap pedal buying kick lately.

The 1st was a Danelectro D-3 FAB METAL. What a stinkin' pedal. It's great! Loud, obnoxious and cheap. It' a 3 opamp SMD jobber along the lines of a simplified Metal ZOne.

I've got an old rocktek analog delay and the case isn't as flimsy as it looks. Yeah it' smade out of plastic, but mine stood up to plenty of gigs just fine. The only thing that ever broke was the battery snap.

Yeah - no need do trash on  cheap plastic pedals... I bout a 10$ arion Stereo Analog Delay and it's worth way more than it cost me.

BTW, tried the Behringer Sans Amp knock off... not too happy to say, but ot's quite good

I have one of those phasers.  Not stunning, but not bad.  Really benefits from turning the FET bias-voltage trimpot (situated near the front skirt of the box) into a chassis-mount pot.  Can re-tune the sweep range for different tones/voicings, from gurgly to breathy.  Unfortunately, no convenient room for it on the stock box, so I had to mount mine on the front skirt  A Hammond chassis might permit a more useful positioning.

Note that, like just about EVERY commercial phaser that uses FET switching, the input and output sections are ALWAYS in circuit with this unit.  The switching merely cancels/blocks the wet signal from the mixing stage.  That means that if you have any intentions of installing a dry-lift switch for getting vibrato, you'll get nothing when you bypass the effect because both wet AND dry will be absent from the mixing stage.

Consequently, any vibrato urges you have will benefit from rehousing with a stompswitch for TB.

The rocktek phaser is not to my taste.

The EQ is alright though.

You migh've bought one of the last Rocktek phasers that MF had. I don't see them on the site any longer :).

I'd gladly sell you mine but my 15 yr old liked it so it's his.

RDV was your Rocktek in a silver or black plastic case?
I have the black case Phaser and a silver case Eq.

I love both. I actually like the sound a little better from my Rocktek over my guitarist MXR Phase 90. But maybe it's because you can tweak it a little better???

Yeah the EQ is great. I got both of mine from Ebay for CHEAP! and they sound great.
Take your phaser and put a chorus pedal with it ... different.

I love the cheap pedals! The Fab Metal started it for me as well.
BTW does anyone here own a Pastrami Overdrive???
