I have no need for feeding batteries to the SCR, except for testing. I don't think it'd/they'd last 1 gig.
DC Jack, battery, Input Power Supply Switching...all this 'schtuff' is needed if a SCR user intends to buy lots of batteries. I don't, and would recommend to anyone intending to actually use the SCR much, to use a supply that eliminates all things related to battery/Switched Jacks/2n3906?/etc.
What I could really use is a simple schematic showing how to hardwire up a MAX1044 to supply the SCR with +9V/-9V supply, converted from a DC WW.
Or an explanation...perhaps verify which diagram on the pdf data sheet link I should be looking at.

I see a 2n3906 and some related items on the GGG board with the MAX1044 on it, the GEO article shows this as a 'better' way to use input jack power switching.
And that earlier statements I read about MAX1044's inability to supply adequate current for the driver section is:
B  not an issue?
[because It looks like the +Supply/pin8, and the -supply/pin5 connect directly to the SCR Circuit and the 2n3906 is doing something other than helping the MaxChip supply current].
  so:
Can the MAX1044 chip supply power to the SCR as shown on the original GEO page's diagram "+9v* and* /-9V from one 9V battery"?
I checked and found I have an NE5532 in what is the driver section, a current hog...
The Supply Converter chip I'll be trying on a "MAX1044" circuit board for +9/-9v ing the SCR is a "TC1044SCPA", from what I understand, it's 'beefier'.

Mine were Intersil ICL7660CPAZ to be precise.

There's your answer.  Only the ICL7660S chips have the frequency boost feature like the MAX1044.  Connecting pins 1 and 8 together on any other ICL7660 will make no difference at all.  The ones I'm using have the full part number ICL7660SCPA.

Just got some MAX1044's today. Plugged them in my booster.....

No squeal.

Perfect.
