Do these transistors suit the RM?

I'm talking about the GT series. GT309G, GT320V, GT403A/B, GT311I, etc etc. I just discovered a huge (and cheap) stock of these at the local store.

I don't think the good ones are sorted out either, so there's a good chance of getting one when I buy alot.

There are also the following transistors at alot higher price: 2SB324, 2SB337, AC187K, AC188K, AD162, P214A, P30, P605A, AD161.

Most of them have a voltage and a current rating next to them. Should I be looking for certain values?

I couldn't find much info on the GT's but the 2SB324 seems to be a direct replacement for AC128.

Hi.
I haven't had luck with AC187s, but quite a few people use AC188s.
According to RG, PNP was easier technology than NPN in the early days.
If they're cheap, I'd suggest that you grab 3 to 5 times what you'll need.  Rejection rates can be that high (or worse if someone's already picked through them like a lot that a friend got on e-bay.  None out of fifty.   :()
good luck

Hmm, I need one for a rangemaster. You say 3 to 5 times more? I bought various types at the local store, more precisely, 66 transistors alltogether. Plus I don't think anyone has sorted through them because, believe it or not, the germanium madness hasn't reached to where I live. And no, I don't mean the town, I mean the whole country. :P Now I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

I have an AC188 and am planning on using it in a rangemaster.
I let you know how i go

I put an AC188 in my rangemaster, it sounds very good.  Where do you live ?  If you can get these cheap, want to sell me some ?  I got mine all the way from Germany and I'm in Montreal.

Hey 8mileshigh, nice to hear from another Montrealer. Got tons of great germs for a good price, also pcb etching etc. ...Rick

Jim, do the "GT309's" look like very small "flying saucers" ?
If so, Jeff Musser put me onto some on Ebay, they are Russian PNP's
and sound great !
I stuck a pair of 309A/309B in a Fuzz face with fantastic results :D
"A" is 50 -90 hfe and "B" is 90 - 130 hfe ( approx ) so not sure about
your "G's" perhaps too high hfe ?
I have some GT404/402's also which look like a larger version of an
AC128.
Have not got them working as yet ( wierd pinout ) but 404 is NPN and
402 are PNP

Hey Rick from Montreal,

Can you drop me a line concerning your source for germanium transistors on the Island.   I'd email you privately but I see your address is hidden.  Thanks

I've got lots of transistors i know are good (AC188, AC128, OC44..) got a bunch of old transistors myself wich i think could be germaniums but i don't know if they are pnp or npn and what their pinout is. if you see anything familiar in the list let me know..

there's also lots of silicone in there but i didn't feel like opening a new topic just for this. i'm also spending a lot of time searching for the datasheets but they aren't easy to find and datasheets don't say "hey that good to build that particular guitar effect"

Birt, the AC's ond OC's are totally useless, you can aswell pack 'em up and ship over here, I can safely transport them to the local junkyard. The East-European junkyards are FAR better than any other in the world. ::)
