From the late 80's Bandit/Special series.  The SuperSat channel (distortion) by-passes the tone controls and goes straight to this familiar looking circuit.  It is followed by a Presence control that works on both channels.  Of interest to me are C20 that either increases or decreases bass as the gain goes up and C65 and R95 which appear to do some serious high frequency roll off along with C30 and C14.  Also, note the 4558 op amp.  Looks like they tweaked some of the existing distortions of the times and off we went...  edit  Doh, forgot the link.   :icon_rolleyes:

I thought the PV did a good job combining all the behavioural features of that circuit.  No individual idea is new but they managed to pull a number of ideas together with a neat solution - that's clever engineering.

I agree.  At the time, 1980's, I thought it was the only way to get a nice sounding distortion without cranking a tube amp (I guess using maxed bassman and ampegs ruined me).  I've learned since then there was plenty of good stuff around that I was just unaware off.  Because of some of the ingnorant snobs I grew up with, I thought pedals were a no no.   :icon_cry:

It's interesting that a company with all their resources didn't come up with anything any better than anyone else.   

I didn't like that the "thick" control was always on with the newer versions, cause I didn't care for it. If I'd been smart, I would have gotten an EQ for the low level loop the amps had and dialed it in, but I'm still learning.   :icon_eek:
