Here's a fuzz face pedal based on Joe Davisson's Antiquity schematic.  This pedal sounds much better than the sili-face I built a few weeks ago. I kept the wire lenght to a minimum and shielded the enclosure which may have contribited something to the sound...dunno.

This is an AMZ mini-boost which I am very happy with.

I've been messing around with some wooden enclosure ideas likes the ones above.  whatta you think?

Rock on.

I like the angle of the switch a lot.  Also the finish looks like my coffee table!
Try a little tenderness.

They look great!

How strong are they? How do they stand up to stomping, and do they slide away from you when you stomp due to the angle?

Very interested,
Erik

Mark Hammer

Ridiculously classy-looking.  Is it a requirement to drive a BMW and play a D'Angelico with them? :icon_wink:

Those are good questions, Erik.  The pedals above are made from Brazillian Cherry with the "shell" being a little over 1/8" thick.  BC is a very hard, stable wood and isn't prone cracking from my personal experience with it. I've made hand tools and mallets with it and haven't had any breakage issues.   As for sliding; yeah, they probably would slide a bit on a wood surface, but rubber feet would stop that.  My practice room is carpeted and I don't have a problem with them sliding.

Rock on.

Nah, a Bentley or a Rolls Royce. The D'Angelico part sounds about right, though.  :icon_cool:

I think Jaguar when I look at the mini-boost for some reason.

They look great! This coming from a diehard Hammond 1590 series diecast aluminum enclosure user.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed that those wooden enclosures look like the cross section of an airplane wing :icon_eek:. Please :icon_redface:

Yeah, could be Jaguar, too. You're probably thinking of the wood detailing inside on the dash and stuff...

Mark Hammer

Yeah, in retrospect, definitely a British car of some sort.  Could be a Rover.

Chad, they look fantastic .... I'm speachless  !!!

Definate "Jaguar/Daimler" in that wood :D

Stunning. My buddy has a "Jag-you-ah" (<- American trying to pronounce it like the Brits). That wood you used reminds me of the interior.
Pardon my poor English. I'm American.

Those are awesome.  That's all I can say.  Those are the best looking pedals I have ever seen! Good job man!

JimRayden

Ii just had to drop in and say my wow's and ahh's.

It really does look stunning. Although the angle of the switch on the first pedal is a bit too steep.

Other than that, the design screams: "STOMP ON ME", while the material and the finish politely ask you to gently put it back on the display window.

The utmost originality and appealing appearance. Excellent job.

Thanks for the compliment and comments, I appreciate both.  I've a background in woodworking and really enjoy the creative side of building enclosures as well as the technical side of working out a circut, the latter of which I have alot to learn. Definitely beats watching TV!

Rock on.

mutant_guitar

i hope you used nitrocellulose lacquer on those boxes, cause anything else won't sound as good as nitro sounds. :icon_biggrin:

Paul Marossy

Umm, isn't it "jag-u-lar"? That's how Pooh would say it... (sorry, I've got young children)  :icon_wink:

Killer Queen

Those really are lovley enclosures. Such a great classy vintage-look to them, like a hammond organ or something.
I'd hesitate to stomp on something so loveley! And it would make all one's other pedals look like junk!

FunkyGibbon

How does one go about making the top curved? Is it carved?

(sorry, don't know anything about woodwork)
