Could someone suggest me some of the best Russian germanium transistors for the fuzz face (and ge-overdrive) style circuits. I just bought some MP20A's (did not got them yet) . Would these be good for the FF ? Any other models too look after. Or should I try any GE bipolar PNP's in FF ?

Thanks,
mat

Check out one of the russian forums and ask them:

Or may maybe Medved will answer you here.

I just had great results with the following :
GT402's (PNP) GT404's ( some 404's are NPN some PNP )
GT309A/B (PNP) ... A are 50-90 hfe and B around 70-150
In Russian "Crylic" they are "RT" not "GT"

The GT308V (80-200), and B (50-120) trannies are great too. The 308As are fine too, but they're a lot lower gain (20-75). You can go to http://staric02.chat.ru/pdf/tgmm_3.pdf  to get some information on the GT series of transistors. You'll need it for pin outs anyway. It's also good to keep a Russian alphabet handy, because you'll think that for instance that a capital "B" looking letter is "B", when in reality it's "V" , etc. you can get a batch off Ebay for cheap, and the quality is wonderful.

"GT404's ( some 404's are NPN some PNP )" - good joke!  :icon_lol:

Well, that's what my transistor data PDF say's, depends on the "suffix" of the 404 !

Big thanks to all for the tips !

So, so far good ones are: GT402, GT404, GT309A/B, GT308V and B, 308A.

Thanks jmusser for the pdf  :icon_cool: I won a set of 40 MP20A's from ebay. Can't wait to try them in FF  ;D

MetalGuy: sorry but I can't speak or read russia, think they would accept a question in english ?

Ivana: Would very much like to know what You wrote  :icon_redface:

The thing is that we have russian theatre group visiting on our theatre. Thare are two nice guys on lighting department that I thought to ask if they would like to check the St. Petersburg's electrick shops for the ge-trannies and sell me few of those. I just have to know the exact part number and possibly have a photo of the item.

Any more suggestions ? Anyone by chance from St. Petersburg  :icon_eek:, good sources to look ?

Hi man,
I would like to confirm:
1.  Russian (Soviet)  GT308V (ГТ308В - literally Russian pronouncation) have the best betta 80...120, and they are the most "soft" Ge trannies among the Soviet ones. Also they have low-noiser specification.
2. GT402 and GT404 are the "pseudo-complementary" transistors. They have kow betta at collector currents lower than 100 mA because the are "medium power-capacity" trannies according to the ancient Soviet classification. But there are  some opinions that GT402\404 are good enough for the FF and similar devices.
3. Also I would like to recommend MP39B  ( МП39Б ): they have good betta and low-noise factor.
4. What about MP20 (МП20А, МП20Б) - regretfully they seem to be a junk.

Hi DDD,

Thanks for the tips ! I'll try to find GT308V's then  :icon_razz:

I just noticed that the MP39B's You recommended has hfe from 20 to 60 (according the Russian datasheet I just got).

I just bought six of the and they measured as:
48
48
56
34
32
37

Have You got good experiences with these on FF ?
