weird boss problem please help

It's almost as if they were expecting the power supply to provide 12 volts instead of 9.

Could be. Maybe it's designed that way on purpose? A lot of "9V" wall warts will put out a lot higher voltage if they are they are lightly loaded. In other words, a 500mA 9VDC wall wart is going to put a lot higher voltage than 9V with a 20mA load connected to it. If you put a 500mA load on it, your going to see closer to 9V.  If that is the case, why didn't hey just use a 9V zener or something?

From what I've read, the ACA supply is unregulated so it no doubt varies greatly with load. But as the original poster wrote earlier, it is a 12 V wall wart.

Hmm, that is weird. I keep thinking corroded power jack or something. I had a similar problem once due to a corroded power jack, but it affected both the battery and the wall wart power supply...

John Greene you were exactly correct!  120 ohm was perfect. That was my problem.  I would not thought that the mods would have caused that.  Good work!
