I don't know of any kits.  Many people like the "Real McTube."  Here's a link: http://www.dogstar.dantimax.dk/tubestuf/mctube.htm

If you prefer low-voltages, there are a couple of starved plate designs out there.  Search for "Shaka Tube" and check out www.diyguitarist.com (specifically the PJM Tube Overdrive).

Anyone else think these McTube pedals and even pedals like the tone bone sound a little harsh? I mean I honestly feel the lack of output tubes and proper transformers kinda kill the "tube" tone. I think I'd rather stick with JFETS and transistors rather than do the whole tube preamp in a pedal thing. Besides, if you are playing screaming heavy metal then I have to say that there is nothing wrong with a solid state amp or a wall of Randalls now and again! :icon_twisted:

Please note I meant GOOD solid state amps.. my Marshall Valvestate has great crunch.

Years ago I bought a Blue Tube pedal. It was if anything not harsh enough! I personally never really liked it much and should have tried it out before buying it. An impulse buy.
But it was desirable enough for someone to STEAL it! I never really missed it, but losing the 'investment' irked me. It was kinda expensive. Oh well.
Tube guys like tubes! And I don't blame 'em.

They have a tube pedal kit. More of a booster than an overdrive though.

You could buy 2 and cascade them. But that would sound pretty yukky I presume.
