Hey,

I was just planning to make my own TS808 clone, but I have come across a problem:

I'm using this schematic, where they use a 20K pot. I know that they used a 25K pot in the origional, and I have a 25K already.

My question is, do I need to make any changes to the schematic in order to accomidate the 25K pot?

Thanks,
Dom

hmmmm ... Although I've never used a 20K I'm sure there's little difference ... I've made quite a few TS808 variations and I've always used a 25K.  The tone control has to be turned more clockwise to get the same amont of high end as my TS808 reissue.

The original TS808 pot was a "G" taper. Not exactly sure what that is but Small Bear stocks these: "20K, work-alike of the "G" taper pot in the TS-808" ... I'll have to try that! ...

Good luck witth the build

That's where I got it from =D

So I don't need to make any modifications to the schematic to accomidate a 25K pot?

I never have ... so I say NO ... There must be some small difference, but not enough to worry about.

Dom

Thanks =]

I'll post once it's done =D

Note that actual pot values are rarely the value written/printed on the pot.  They can easily be 10-20% either side of the stated value (though generally less, in my experience).  The bottom line for you is that you should not expect a pot that says 25k to behave very differently from one that IS 20k  When you factor in the tolerances of all the other components, such as the tone cap (is it REALLY .22uf or does it just SAY .22uf on the part?), the practical difference is negligible.

Personally I think you would be better off with a 2K linear pot.
