Got my B stock flanger Hoax today from Aron. Fast shipping great service. I dont see why it is B stock, perhaps the 3, 2mm scrapes in the finish?

After playing with it for 3 hours, I feel I am ready to submit a review.

This Is the most versatile modulation device I have ever had my hands on. It isnt for the beginner. The sounds do get crazy, sounding as if they are folding in on themselves. The rate knob of the modulator gets insanely fast. It does exactly what I hoped it would and more. I do have one criticism, the delay should be more tweakable, instead of the presets available with the rotary switch, I imagine they are selecting different caps for the clock. I would have prefered a pot. However given the options available, it does sort of make sense to simplify it a little bit. The noise problems reported by some people are not evident in my unit, it is true bypass (I checked). With blend up full on some settings you can hear the sweep faintly in the background, but this is normal for most flangers I have ever tried.

This is a welcome addition to my creative arsenal and I dont have another pedal that is capable of the sounds this thing is. I must remember to write down my settings.

Of course, after E-H has moved 20,000 units a couple of years from now, and used units start being e-bayed by the timid, perhaps we can pry a few secrets from Ton and start modding the beast.  Won't THAT be the sickest thing imaginable? :icon_lol:

newperson

can you post any sound links?

Thanks,
paul.

Does anyone have the block diagram of the Eh flanger hoax?

The Flanger Hoax is one crazy box all right! You can get some crazy tones from it.

there`s already the "hiss-reduction" mod in this forum,
as well as the "15 minute-sweep" mod in the HC FX forum.

The rotary switch doesn't select the delay time, it the selects the relative LFO phase on the two delays, e.g. Mode 1 means the LFO on the second delay line is 180 degrees out of phase with the LFO on the first delay.  Use the "delay amount" controls to tweak the delay time.

btw.: it happens to happen,
that a lot of  those "mods", that are being err, newly invented for commercial products,
have all been on the designer`s bench long before, but discarded with when a new product hits the market, due to economical (or other*) reasons...

How would I go about purchasing one of Aron's B-stock units?  I must have missed something.

Personally, I dont want to touch it, even if I could find a 10M pot with the characteristics described. The hiss isnt noticable with mine.

I played arround with one at a friends house.  We were kind of baffled by it.  We got lots of crazy noises out of it, but it seemed like the colors arround the knobs were trying to hint at how everything interacted... I didnt find it very intuitive....  I think i will be getting one soon, even though im not much of a flanger fan.  Im a huge EH fan.
