After building a very basic distortion and bazz fuzz I'm looking for a worthwhile project to get my teeth into, maybe with a basic IC chip in (TL072) I do not mind what kind of effect it is, as long as the end product is satisfying.

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

In terms of better sound my current amp is pretty poor in most departments, so therefore something that will make it sound a whole load better is the general idea.

Ive looked at cab sims but never really known which is a good'un!

  Not to be a cab sim 'disser', but you can 'sort of cab sim with a circuit like...
  TS [Tube Reamer is EZ-er, good runner, different but like TS]
  Multi Jfet amp Sim
  I'm saying these because they have fairly easy to reproduce [amplify] 'character' distortion.
  For something more intense and still fairly simple, great unit...Liquid Drive, which is a DIST+
  A Jfet or other booster can provide a nice compliment to any of these, intensifying the distortion clipping sound, maybe sounding great alone, adding versatility.
  ...Adding HP and LP filtering caps, similar to what is in the speaker simulators, simulates speakers on anything really, all the circuits mentioned are 'voiced' and can be adjusted to taste.
  Not to put you off building speakers *sims...they can be useful, but I also assume you have *speakers anyway.
