His girlfriend askes me whether I could build him someting for his birthday.
But he's tough... you see he already has:

- main amp = 1959 Plexi clone amp with attenuator
- Boss compression/sustainer
- Boss tuner
- Colorsound TB MkIII (I already built... ;D)
- Fulldrive 2
- Boss DC-2 dimension C  :o
- E-H Tube Zipper

I guess what he still can use is a good reverb, delay or phaser?

How about a nice "Octave Fuzz"  ?

Neoctavia, Bobtavia produce some juicy and strong octave tones ...
Or Ampeg Scrambler for a more "retro - vibe"

Yea, nice octave fuzz can be fun, especially if there is a decent fuzz in the chain somewhere too - like that tonebender

personally, i would go for the phase45. when set up properly, this effect really has a gorgeous sound, plus torchy's vero layout makes for an easy, clean build.

i had mine working perfectly, then accedently blew it up.
then again they say its better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all  :icon_cry:

I venture to recommend Ampeg Scrambler as MartyMart did.
IMO the gift should  not be usual thing, it should be something unusual. Scrambler is just what you need.
Or try this one with consumption about 90 uA (!!!):

Drag! ... I did that to a script phase 90 I fixed .... got it working and blew it up putting it back in the box, shorted something ... Had to replace an op-amp and all 4 fets to get it working again. I swore after that I'd never attempt to build or fix a phaser again, then of course I build a phase 45! DOH! ... I'm just waiting for fets to match and it should fire up ...

Don't know what it is, must be just coincidence, seein' how we all say the 45 is 'easy'. Mine works great...downstairs in the lab, upstairs though, it exhibits strange behavior. Repeatedly. It sits there now, Downstairs.
Small Amp sim, I just printed "Matchbox" schematic.
I didn't see a 1Q booster on the list of 'have already's', Ge or Jfet works great, but with what he's got, I picture one who prefers heavy distortions? You know how easy and useful these can be for pummeling an amps input.
One I've been using lots of these days is the Vox Pre-amp, [search SS Vox experts, RDV], I built the one with 1 inductor, and that's like a mid-trebley, treble boost, it throws a whole different character tone into my amps, super great for 'clean twangk', booster on the end of it, it becomes quite a character.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

I'd get him a good WAH pedal, or some type of auto-WAH or EnvelopeWah.

Or U could build him a McMeat??

Think of  CryBaby clone with very hi-Q and adjustable sweep ratio & width .
Can U say SynthyFilter?

Looks to me like this could be someone who might have a great time with a Univibe-type effect, and it would certainly complement what he already has.  That could be JC Maillet's Univibing of the Phase 45, or it could be a Ross Phaser (Tonepad Ropez) with the Univibe cap changes.  I guess the question is whether you could get your hands on the necessary parts in time to have it built and debugged.

Noplasticrobots

I can't believe a bunch of great effects builders wouldn't think to incorporate this into a special "birthday" pedal:

Doesn't that seem obvious?  ;)
I love the smell of solder in the morning.

I'm planning to build a Ph90, so my Ph45 is in the "outbox". Question is: Would it be that spectacular in changing the caps into 10:1. I mean it's an easy job, isn't it, but soundwise... Maybe a DPDT switch?
