Hi, I've made this modification to my boss sd-1:

http://www.guitarfaq.com/index_v2-7-37.html

the sound is much improved, more distortion, more bass... unfortunately when is bypassed, the clean sound level is a bit low. I have tried to replace the modded R2 with the original 470k one, and all is ok, but when Iturn on/off the pedal, it does a strange noise, like a "beep".

how can I do to remove it? Thanks!
Sorry for my english :|

Hey that's a "feature"  ...

"Includes all new state beep" .... to let you KNOW it's off  !! :icon_lol:

Ahah, wow! :D

:-\ And if I want to take away this "feature"? has that ever happened to someone? Please help me :)

OK, sorry .... just joking  :D
The 620k is worth doing, increases input impedance when engaged AND bypassed.
The "Bypass" level seems low ?  that could just be that you've got gain/volume set a bit
too high, just turn volume down some until its about the same as the bypassed level, or
a "bit" higher if you want some boost, I'm sure that your bypassed state hasn't suffererd a
volume drop !
As for the "beep" .... ? no idea sorry, just go over all the work you've done on it and
check for shorts/mistakes which are easily missed.

Thanks  Marty :-\

So, I have replaced the original components, and the "beep" still there!!!  :(

how can I do to understand where the problem is? Thanks...

Thanks  Marty :-\

So why do I bother ?
You stuck a soldering Iron in your SD-1 and you "Broke" it .....
Do you want me to "fly" to wherever you live and fix the beep problem ??
Or just try to guess at what stupid mistake you may have made ....
I suggested that you re-check all the work you've done to the SD-1..... so
have you done that ?
Do you own a DMM, to check for "Bad" parts and possibly some voltage
readings...
Did you fit the "Ge Transistor" at D6 ..perhaps "backwards"

I dont understand your seemingly "sarcastic" response ......  :icon_question:

Good luck,

That kind of stuff can be tricky, especially if it only exhibits the unwanted state of function, ITCase 'beep' for very short periods of time.
;beep pretty much necessarily equates to 'oscillation' for a short period of time..
..all I can do is theorize a litte that the changing state of the Jfets either causes them, or something they control into oscillation.
I've managed to avoid that type of switching to where I'd learn about it.
I'd say pick one up cheep or clone it, at least until you get an approach toward debugging that one....beyond the 'cursory' checks like magnifying glass w/close in light, voltage measurements, etc.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Hey Marty, I was not sarcastic. I dont speak English well and maybe you have understood me badly... I'm so sorry, ok? :). I have sincerely thanked you for your answers and for the time that you have wasted with my stupid problems... ok? :)

It was really a stupid problem, the "beep" was due to the died 9V battery. It was a mistake of mine, I should have verified that before posting.

Thanks and sorry again! Also thank to you Pete!
