Before I start modding my TS9DX, I have some INTERESTING questions.

On with the questions

1. Is modding a TS9DX the same as modding a plain TS9/808?

2. The resistor change, the 470 and the 100k being replaced with 100 and 10k; Are these changes neccescary? How much will they affect tone?

3. If I sub in an incompatible chip in the socket, will I fry my stompbox? or will it not function correctly

4. How easy is it to fry an Op-Amp IC?

5. I'm going to obviously pull out the present IC, then i'll put in a socket and start subsituting some different ICs in. Does anyone know anything about these ICs or if they are compatible Op amps? (By the way, desoldered em from an old SHARP CD player.)
Here are the IC's

1. Mitsubishsi 5238/5605 (Not sure about this one)
2. LM833N
3. SHARP IR94558/558D
4. JRC 2903D/5013
5. JRC 4560D/5016

no one ever

find datasheets for those and compare it to the datasheet of a random jrc4558..

i'd recommend only salvaging parts for diy usage from pedals or low voltage audio equipment

good luck! happy soldering.

(psst: smallbearelec.com has tons of op amps for you to choose from)

didier

google for the datasheets for those opamp.
check if they are dual opamps with the same pinout as the JRC (like TL072 and LM833 are, well, actually almost all dual opamps are)

for some it seems to be easier to fry opamps than for others.
it all depends if you know what you are doing...

if you want to know about the mods, read here:

3. If I sub in an incompatible chip in the socket, will I fry my stompbox? or will it not function correctly
YES/yes, try to find a standard dual OA.
4. How easy is it to fry an Op-Amp IC?
I think it may be as easy as sticking it in the socket upside down and powering up, but I haven't tested that lately...lol.
IIRC, the resistors you asked about are both mods to smaller values, therefore you can just parallel a resistor across the old one ['making' it smaller valued]...taking the 470 for example, paralleling a 470 and a 100 ohm, it'll come out to under 100ohms by a little. You could use testclips...or 'poke/hold' it in...[testclips].
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Any more info on the resistors- in other words; are they neccessary for putting in the JRC4558D? I remember reading somewhere that they didnt affect tone too much except on driven tube amps, am I correct?  ???

no one ever

you should do it just for the sake of knowing you did it. doing the unneccessary is going the extra mile.

unless you break your project in the process.  :icon_biggrin:
