Mayer stone fuzz curiosity?

I tried a stone fuzz out for a half hour or so at a studio,
It didn't sound like any low gain SI FF that I have ever built/tweaked. It had the cool spongy static fuzz sound that the mayer axis fuzz has, but it was so smooth with  an old twin reverb/tele combo. I really dig all of Mayers Rocket series. I wouldn't mind buying one but I prefer a DC power source, and a LED, and a small footprint.

Does anyone know what makes the Stone Fuzz so smooth? The archive didn't have any info.
Anyone have one of these with time to peek inside?

I think Roger is talking about low noise circuitry and not low gain. The transistors are a pretty high gain. What Roger does here is match transistors and re bias Q2, giving it a better transition between notes with a more natural sounding harmonic structure. The transistor types, further add to stability and noise reduction.pl

Thanks pl,
I have a couple SI FF's with low gain tranny's I will have to mess around with some quality higher gain tranny's and pay even closer attention to bias of Q2.  Might even try to get the scope involved a little.

Hello,
Anyone know what value the "input", and "output" caps are on the stone fuzz?
I can't get my SI fuzzface to keep a tight bottom end, but not be too bright like the real deal?
The stone fuzz is pretty woolly, but the low end holds together really well at  high volumes.
I am using BC559 tranny's like the original.
thanks in advance,
