I've spotted these on ebay recently and they appear to be the same.  I was curious if anyone knows what circuit they are related to and what they sound like.

thanks,

... heard some great guitar tones on european recordings from the late 60's that were made with it - popular with Paul/Marshall players ... I'm told one side was like a Rangemaster and the other like a Fuzz-Face ... apparently it was popular to disconnect the fuzz side (not sure why) - would be good to find out exactly what's in there ...

Well I just was high bidder on the Panther fuzz, I can tell you what it is like and draw up a schematic when it gets here.

hi,

Wondering if you recieved the pedal and have anything to report...

Projects!  Projects!  Projects.  I have it sitting in the living room.  Have to try it first to see if it works.  Promise to do it this weekend.

I was looking at a Ludwig Phase II.  That kind of jumped in line on this thing...

But now that works, so I can devote time to the panther.

I don't know if it is working 100% but here is how it was.  The treble knob did nothing except when swept you could hear a change that would go away when the knob stopped moving.  Not sure which way was the "treble" switch in or out, but one way it was noticably quieter and less fuzzy.  This is the standard 60s splatter fuzz.  Overpowering and sludgy.  Not refined.  I will compare the schematic to the fuzz I have, seems to be circa mid 1966 from the pot date codes.

Sir H C

Okay I compared my circuit to the schematic.  Much different, the overall "theme" is the same, but a lot of the impedances are 10x greater, some different other bits, and all three pots are 10k linear.  I will try to draw out the schematic to show it.

Sir H C

Made an updated .GIF file of the Panther fuzz.  It is based on my unit with the pots dated 6632.
